Orchids and Water?

When growing orchids and managing water, you need to consider factors such as season, sunlight, temperature, humidity, the pot, the substrate, and the condition of the plant. Below are a few general experiences about watering.

1.OrchidsRainwater or snowmelt is best, river water is second best, and well water is next. Water containing minerals or alkaline water is not suitable. If using tap water, it must be left to stand for one or two days until the chlorine in the water has evaporated before use.

2. In hot seasons, water in the evening to avoid the water on the leaf surface burning the leaves after exposure to the sun, and to prevent high-temperature water from scalding the tender lower parts of new shoots.

3. In cold seasons, water during the daytime to prevent water in the pot from freezing and damaging the orchid roots at night. Avoid water accumulating in the crown, as it easily causes young plants to rot.

4. When orchid leaves have disease spots, keep the leaf surface dry to prevent the spread of pathogens.

5. If using traditionalgrowingsubstrate, it is best to use the "dry-wet alternation" watering method, that is, water only after the surface soil has dried completely, and when you water, water thoroughly until water comes out of the bottom of the pot. Never keep it half-dry and half-wet. This alternating dry and wet watering method is beneficial to orchid root growth. In winter, if there is no heated shelter, it is best to water less.
