Control methods for Cattleya leaf spot disease
Symptoms: The rhizome area of the plant turns brown and rots, and silky mycelium is visible on the diseased part. The plant's leaves wilt.Pathogen: Rhizoctonia solani Kuhn., a fungus belonging to Deuteromycotina, Mycelia Sterilia, genus Rhizoctonia, causing Rhizoctonia damping-off. The pathogen mainly survives as mycelium in soil or on diseased plant residues and spreads through mycelial growth.
Disease conditions: Seedlings grown in unsterilized garden soil are prone to the disease. High soil moisture favors the development of the disease.
Control methods
1. Treat the seedbed with medicated soil: mix 5 grams of carbendazim with 25 kg of fine soil per square meter of seedbed to make medicated soil, and use it as bedding soil and covering soil when sowing.
2. In the early stage of the disease, spray with a 1200-fold dilution of 20% tolclofos-methyl emulsifiable concentrate (Rizolex).
3. When root rot and stem rot occur together, spray with a 800-fold dilution of 72.2% Previcur plus a 800-fold dilution of 50% thiram.
