Online report  On July 11, the fifth training session of the national agricultural market information system professional knowledge training, hosted by the Department of Market and Economic Information of the Ministry of Agriculture, concluded at the Ministry of Agriculture Management Cadre College, marking the completion of the comprehensive training portion of the 2014 thousand-person training plan.

The national agricultural market information system professional knowledge training was fully launched in April this year, adopting a combination of comprehensive market information training and specialized training. Five comprehensive market information training sessions were held at the Ministry of Agriculture Management Cadre College, inviting 22 experts and scholars to form a teaching team. More than 630 agricultural department market information staff from the provincial, municipal and county levels across 31 provinces (autonomous regions and municipalities directly under the Central Government) and the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps participated in the training.

These five training sessions closely focused on the theme of agricultural “market-oriented reform and informatization development,” adopting formats such as expert lectures, case teaching, exchanges among trainee representatives, on-site teaching and group discussions. The content was rich, the formats diverse, and the training results remarkable.

Full departmental mobilization to strengthen professional training. At each training session, the Department of Market and Economic Information arranged for one department leader to give a special lecture, and the directors of each business division explained in depth and detail the work processes and professional knowledge of market circulation, monitoring and statistics, early warning and regulation, and agricultural informatization. The division directors also adjusted the content of their explanations in a timely manner according to changes in the trainees, participated in trainee discussions, listened to demands, recorded problems and adopted suggestions. The trainees felt that the training sessions were practical, reflecting the pragmatic work style and dedicated spirit of the Department of Market and Economic Information.

Rich training content to ensure training quality. To avoid monotonous training content, not only were well-known experts and scholars in the fields of marketization and informatization arranged, but relevant persons in charge of the Beijing Xinfadi Agricultural Products Wholesale Market, general managers of e-commerce enterprises, local trainee representatives, and technical experts from listed informatization companies were also invited, so that trainees not only learned cutting-edge theoretical knowledge in marketization and informatization, but also experienced fresh case experience from the front line. To improve training quality, the Department of Market and Economic Information pioneered real-name teaching evaluation. After each session, trainees were asked to conduct teaching evaluations under their real names, so that trainee opinions could be heard in a timely manner and the teaching staff structure could be reasonably adjusted, continuously improving the teaching quality of the training sessions.

Optimizing teaching formats to enhance intuitive experience. On the basis of consolidating theoretical teaching, the training sessions arranged on-site teaching, organizing trainees to visit the “Agricultural Information Monitoring and Early Warning Research Space” of the Agricultural Information Institute of the Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences, showcasing the most cutting-edge technological applications and achievements in China's agricultural information monitoring and early warning; and to visit the “Beijing Xiaotangshan National Precision Agriculture Research Demonstration Base” and the Jinfu Yinong Agricultural Science and Technology Demonstration Park in Taihu Town, Tongzhou District, to intuitively experience the tremendous role of agricultural Internet of Things technology in agricultural production. During the visits, on-site commentators and technical staff answered the trainees' questions one by one. A trainee from the grassroots said that the agricultural monitoring and early warning platform exceeded his imagination, and he felt very inspired. With authoritative data and early warnings, farmers have a basis for deciding what to sell and what to plant.

Discussing hot topics and strengthening work thinking. In order to enable trainees to think deeply about the difficulties and hot topics in market information work and to exchange local experiences and practices, the organizers divided the trainees of each training session into 5 groups and, centering on the core issues of current market information work and following the principle of highlighting key points and staying close to reality, carefully designed 25 discussion topics, including “how to better give play to the roles of the government and the market and solve the problem of unsalable and difficult-to-sell fresh agricultural products” and “how to strengthen the building of regional brands and specialty brands for agricultural products.” The trainees conducted in-depth discussions and produced more than a dozen report materials of great value. This was both an exchange of work situations and a comprehensive large-scale investigation, and the Department of Market and Economic Information reported that it has strong reference significance for advancing practical work.

The intense and fulfilling teaching arrangements and the active and enthusiastic participation of the trainees enabled the five training sessions to achieve good training results and also laid a solid foundation for future training work.

Trainees had a strong interest in learning, and the actual registration rate was relatively high. The five training sessions covered market information staff from agricultural departments at the provincial, municipal and county levels. Judging from the actual training participants, a total of 665 people were planned to be trained across the five sessions, and 637 people were actually trained, with an actual registration rate of 95%.

High teaching participation and good teaching results. Trainees actively participated in training evaluation and offered suggestions for improving teaching. A total of 572 evaluation manuals were collected across the five training sessions, with a recovery rate of 90%, providing very good suggestions for continuously improving training quality. Sessions 2 to 5 required trainees to write thousand-character essays related to their own work, and a total of 448 thousand-character essays were received, with a writing rate of 80%.

Building an exchange platform and enhancing system cohesion. The Department of Market and Economic Information specially set up a training exchange page for this training, opening 4 columns: training updates, work deployment, study and exchange, and training highlights, to promptly publish training notices, schedule arrangements and discussion topics, publicize training updates and specialized training, showcase trainee style and training activities, and selected and published 80 excellent thousand-character essays and learning reflections. Through the training, trainees strengthened interactive exchanges, promoted mutual learning and reference among provinces, stimulated everyone's enthusiasm for learning, and enhanced the cohesion of system building.

In September, the Department of Market and Economic Information will continue to hold 3 specialized training sessions in the three provinces of Liaoning, Jiangsu and Fujian, respectively carrying out on-site teaching and training on monitoring, statistics and early warning analysis, agricultural informatization and Internet of Things applications, and agricultural product market system building. At present, preparations for all items are in intense preparation.
