During the research, Li Jiayang held talks with Erkinjan·Tulahong, member of the Standing Committee of the Party Committee of the Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, and Tian Wen, Vice Chairman of the Autonomous Region, and signed the "Agricultural Science and Technology Cooperation Agreement between the Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences and the People's Government of the Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region."
At the signing ceremony, Li Jiayang pointed out that the level of agricultural science and technology determines the level of agricultural productivity, and the degree of progress in agricultural science and technology determines the degree of agricultural modernization. The Party Committee and Government of the Autonomous Region, closely centering on Xinjiang's regional conditions and advantages, have taken agricultural science and technology as an important force for promoting agricultural development and promoting farmers' employment and income growth, and the capacity for scientific and technological support and the level of agricultural mechanization have been significantly improved. Xinjiang, as our country's bridgehead facing Central Asia, is the core area for the construction of the Silk Road Economic Belt. In particular, Xinjiang and the Central Asia region both belong to arid and semi-arid irrigated agricultural ecological zones, and Xinjiang's agricultural technologies and achievements can be directly promoted and applied to the countries of Central Asia. The signing of the agricultural science and technology cooperation agreement between the Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences and the Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, and the joint construction of a national-level Western Agricultural Research Center and a China-Central Asia Agricultural Science and Technology Sub-center, is a strategic measure to implement the national “Western Development” and “One Belt, One Road” strategic arrangements, promote the development of modern agriculture in Xinjiang and other western regions, and promote agricultural science and technology cooperation between our country and the Central Asia region.
Tian Wen expressed gratitude to the Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences for its long-term help and support to Xinjiang in terms of talent, technology, funds, and projects, and for its contributions to the progress of Xinjiang's agricultural science and technology undertakings and economic and social development, and suggested further deepening cooperation between the People's Government of the Xinjiang Autonomous Region and the Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences. First, the two sides should complement each other's advantages and achieve mutual benefit and win-win results; second, accelerate the transformation of achievements and promote farmers and herdsmen in increasing income and becoming prosperous; third, strengthen talent training and the construction of basic scientific research platforms to enhance the capacity for scientific and technological innovation; fourth, the two sides should work together to accelerate the construction of the “China-Central Asia Science and Technology Cooperation Center.”
