Symptom Identification and Control Methods for Orchid Soft Rot

Orchid Soft Rot

When water droplets remain on the leaves for too long, they can easily cause bacterial or fungal infection, resulting in localized rot. If it is not controlled, the area of rot will spread wider and wider, eventually causing the plant to die. Therefore, special care should be taken when watering; never allow water to remain in the central part of the leaf cluster, and air circulation should be maintained to help the water droplets on the leaves evaporate.

Control methods: 1) Strengthen fertilizer and water management to improve tree vigor. 2) Prune diseased branches and remove sources of infection. 3) Prevent damage to branches and bark by people and livestock to reduce wounds. 4) Whitewash the trunks in winter for protection. 5) In early April and mid-to-early June, scrape off the bark of the diseased spots and apply a 10-fold sodium carbonate solution once each time; the cure rate can reach 96%. You can also brush on 50% carbendazim or 50% thiophanate-methyl 400-500 fold solution, or 5 degrees Baume lime sulfur mixture, or 50% amobam 500-fold solution. The bark scraped off should be gathered and burned.
