There are ways to delay the flowering period of autumn orchids

Autumn orchid is also calledCymbidium ensifolium. Generally, a pot of multi-plant connected autumn orchids (that is, each pot with more than 20 connected shoots) can successively sprout flower buds 2 to 3 times from early summer to late autumn, among which the most vigorous flowering time is mostly around the Beginning of Autumn. Although flower buds can still be repeatedly produced after the Beginning of Autumn, the budding rate is noticeably lower. Because the peak flowering period coincides exactly with the hottest days of the weather, the flowering period is short, and the best viewing period is only 3 to 5 days. If the peak flowering period is pushed back a little and the temperature drops somewhat, the flowering period will inevitably be extended accordingly.

I have grown orchids for more than 10 years and keep many pots of autumn orchids. In recent years, I have adopted the method of removing the flower buds that sprout early (June to July) to delay the flowering period, and the effect is quite good. The specific method: taking the end of July as the boundary, remove all flower buds that sprout before this time on large pots of autumn orchids (more than 20 shoots), and keep the flower buds that sprout afterward. In this way, by September it is exactly the peak flowering period, the autumn coolness is pleasant, and the time for enjoying the flowers is relatively extended.

It should be noted that autumn orchids must reach a certain number of shoots for this to work. If the number of shoots is relatively small (fewer than 10 shoots), the rate of re-sprouting flower buds is very low; only when the number of shoots is relatively large (15 to 20 shoots or more) is the rate of re-sprouting flower buds relatively high. Therefore, this measure is best implemented only on large pots of multi-plant connected autumn orchids.
