Viral Diseases of Orchids

All diseases caused by viruses inorchidsare collectively called viral diseases, or toxin diseases. In the early stage, the symptoms of viral diseases are not obvious, and they are mistaken for bacterial infections. In fact, there is currently no treatment for viral diseases, and only preventive work can be done. The general symptoms of viral diseases include yellow spots on the leaves, or necrotic black spots, or faded or dark green patches, uneven flower coloring, and even irregular flower shapes.

If the above situations occur, the plant should be isolated or discarded immediately. In addition to reducing pest damage, prevention methods must also pay attention to planting density not being too high, to avoid mutual infection through friction; and tools that have come into contact with diseased plants, such as scissors or knives, should be soaked in 5% sodium hydroxide (NaOH) for 1 minute to disinfect them.
