Goering's cymbidium
Goering's cymbidium
Goering's cymbidiumAlso known as Cao Lan (grass orchid), it originated in our country. It likes a warm, humid and semi-shaded environment. It is cold-tolerant. The most suitable climate is warm winters and cool summers, and it must absolutely avoid high temperatures and dryness. It requires loose, fertile, slightly acidic leaf mold soil with good drainage. ●Propagation
It is usually propagated mainly by division. This is done in spring and autumn. In spring, the best time is from the plant's dormant period until before the new buds emerge. Remove the old soil from the pot, wash the fleshy roots clean with clear water, let them dry, trim off broken roots and dead leaves, and take care not to damage the tender buds or break the leaves. Generally, each pot is planted with 2 to 3 growths of leaves.
●Cultivation
In spring and summer, shade is needed; in autumn and winter, full sunlight is required. During the growing period, it must absolutely avoid direct strong light or exposure to blazing sun. Maintain relatively high air humidity and prevent damage from sudden rain showers. From the emergence of new buds to the winter dormant period, fertilize once every half month. In winter, when the orchid seedlings are in a semi-dormant state, stop fertilizing.
●Pests and diseases
Black spot disease and scale insects are common problems. For black spot disease, spray with a 600-fold dilution of 65% zineb wettable powder; for scale insects, spray with a 1000-fold dilution of 25% omethoate emulsifiable concentrate to kill them.
●Uses
Goering's cymbidium overflows with a delicate fragrance, and potted plants are often used to decorate indoor halls. It can provide fragrance for 1 month, and is very serene and elegant.
