Clivia Winter Care Methods and Precautions

Winter Care of Clivia

1. Clivia should be placed in a warm spot indoors. During the day, keep the temperature at around 23°C, and at night keep it at around 13°C, maintaining a day-night temperature difference of around 10°C. Do not keep it next to a stove just to keep it warm, otherwise the Clivia is prone to yellowing leaves, which affects its normal growth.

2. In winter, Clivia likes ample sunlight, but does not need long hours of light. After the Clivia sends up its flower stalk, do not let the flower buds be exposed to sunlight too early, otherwise it may easily bloom inside the leaves.

3. Winter temperatures are low and ventilation conditions are poor, so watering frequency must be controlled well. Usually, water thoroughly once, then water again after the potting soil has dried naturally. If watered too often and the potting soil stays waterlogged for a long time, root rot will occur. You can often spray water on the leaves and the pot surface, and wipe the leaves with a cloth, to prevent the air from becoming too dry.

4. Winter temperatures are low, so do not apply raw fertilizer. This is because fertilizer can decompose and ferment at temperatures of 15°C to 18°C, generating high temperatures that burn the Clivia's fleshy roots.
