In 2013, the main business revenue of China's agricultural product processing industry reached 17.2 trillion yuan, up 18.3% year on year, with 22.98 million employees, over 70% of whom were farmers. The agricultural product processing industry contributed 9% to farmers' per capita net income. This was introduced by Yang Shaopin, a member of the Party Leadership Group of the Ministry of Agriculture, at the press conference for the 2014 China Agricultural Product Processing Industry Investment and Trade Fair.

According to the introduction, since the beginning of this century China's agricultural product processing industry has developed rapidly, but problems remain, such as the industry being large but not strong, low technological content, relatively scattered layout, and insufficient public services. For this reason, the 2014 China Agricultural Fair, to be held from September 6-8 in Zhumadian City, Henan Province, will adhere to a problem-oriented approach, highlight the theme of promoting and transforming scientific research achievements, and strengthen investment and financing as well as bank-enterprise matchmaking. At that time, a number of national-level research institutes and universities, including the Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences and China Agricultural University, will promote a batch of technological achievements and carry out science-enterprise matchmaking. More than 20 banks, securities companies and investment institutions will carry out bank-enterprise matchmaking, and experts and scholars will hold discussions on topics such as difficulties in obtaining loans and the high cost of financing.
