Statistics on land and resources for the first half of 2014 released recently by the Ministry of Land and Resources show that 28,510 land violation cases were discovered nationwide, involving a land area of 11,256.9 hectares, up 27.7% and 18.9% year-on-year respectively.

An official with the Ministry of Land and Resources said the main reasons for the increase in violation cases and the land area involved are that since May, infrastructure and resource-related construction projects in the western region have involved many illegal land uses over large areas; and some provinces in the eastern region carried out special clean-up work on illegal land use, uncovering and handling a large number of newly found illegal land uses. In addition, 1,915 cases of illegal mineral resource activities were placed on file for investigation and handling nationwide, down 12.9% year-on-year.
