Prevention and Treatment of Black Spot Disease in Orchids

1223 OrchidsPrevention and Treatment of Black Spot Disease
Black spot disease, also known as anthracnose, belongs to the same category of orchid diseases as leaf spot disease, round spot disease, and so on. In my opinion, the main causes of this disease are excessively high temperatures and overly wet growing medium. Rapidly growing new plants are the most prone to developing this disease. Late summer and the entire autumn are the peak periods for black spot disease. Orchid growers must be especially careful during this time and observe frequently. As soon as the disease is detected, treatment must be started immediately.
For black spot disease, prevention should normally be the priority. The method is to apply medication once every 10 days or half a month, and once a week during peak seasons.
Based on my experience, here is the treatment method for black spot disease: after detecting the disease, immediately reduce watering until the surface of the pot turns white, then use carbendazim or thiophanate, mix with water according to the specified ratio, and apply treatment every 3 days. Generally, results will be seen after 3 to 5 treatments. If, after 10 to 15 days of observation, the black spots on the orchid leaves do not spread or grow larger, this indicates that the treatment has been successful! After that, only normal preventive measures are needed. For diseased leaves with small black spots, just leave them alone. For those with large black spots, simply cut off the affected leaves. I am uploading a few pictures of black spot disease for everyone's reference.
