To promote early maturity and prevent early frost, some areas in Northeast China will strengthen technical guidance
Report from Beijing, August 11 (Reporter Qiao Jinliang): This year, some areas in Northeast China suffered severe low-temperature spring waterlogging in spring, soybean sowing dates were significantly delayed compared with normal years, some areas experienced periodic overcast, rainy and low-light weather during the flowering and podding period, the growth process was sluggish, and the maturity period may be later than normal. The meteorological department predicts that, affected by a possible El Nino event of moderate or greater intensity, the first frost date in Northeast China this year may be earlier.
In order to promote normal soybean growth and development, ensure safe maturity, the Ministry of Agriculture organized experts to propose technical guidance for promoting early maturity and preventing early frost in Northeast China soybeans, focusing on “drainage to reduce waterlogging, foliar fertilizer spraying, and artificial smoke fumigation.” The guidance requires that for low-lying areas or plots prone to waterlogging, measures such as mechanical drainage and ditch digging for drainage should be used to promptly remove accumulated water in the fields and stagnant water in the plow layer.
