Yu Xinrong: Fight drought scientifically to secure a bumper autumn grain harvest

Website news Since July, some areas in Northeast China have received less rainfall and experienced sustained high temperatures, and the drought has developed rapidly, seriously threatening autumn grain production. On August 14, the Ministry of Agriculture held a video consultation meeting on drought relief and autumn harvest protection in Northeast China to analyze and assess the drought development trend and arrange drought relief and autumn harvest protection work. Vice Minister of Agriculture Yu Xinrong stressed that the task of drought relief and autumn harvest protection in Northeast China is urgent, and agricultural departments at all levels must resolutely implement the important instructions of central leaders on current drought relief work, with firmer confidence and more effective measures, vigorously advance scientific drought relief, resolutely win this tough battle of drought relief and autumn harvest protection, and spare no effort to secure a bumper autumn grain harvest.
Yu Xinrong pointed out that Northeast China is our country's “great granary”, and the autumn grain output of the four provinces (regions) accounts for 1/3 of the national autumn grain output. If grain in Northeast China is stable, national grain will be stable; if grain in Northeast China increases, the supply of commercial grain will be guaranteed. At present, Northeast China is in the critical period for the formation of autumn grain yield, and the continuously developing drought is very unfavorable to crop growth and development. Farming time is pressing, and the task of drought relief is heavy. All localities must make drought relief and autumn harvest protection the primary task of current agricultural production, increase efforts further, strengthen measures further, and quickly set off an upsurge in drought relief and autumn harvest protection. As long as the drought is not relieved, drought relief will not stop, so as to minimize the losses caused by drought.
Yu Xinrong stressed that disaster relief is like fighting fire, and all localities must act quickly and take practical measures in drought relief work, and go all out to fight the tough battle of drought relief and autumn harvest protection.First, efforts must be made to expand the irrigated area. Do a good job in machinery allocation, power dispatch, and material transport, and support drought-affected areas in carrying out drought relief work. Strengthen communication with water conservancy departments and dispatch water sources from rivers and reservoirs well. Take effective measures to divert more, lift more, and store more water, and increase surface water sources. Carry out artificial rain enhancement operations in a timely manner and develop airborne rainwater resources. Give full play to the role of drought relief service organizations and agricultural machinery professional cooperatives, and achieve the goal of irrigating where possible and irrigating as much as should be irrigated.Second, vigorously advance scientific drought relief. Organize experts and agricultural technicians to go deep into drought areas to inspect soil moisture and formulate targeted technical guidance opinions. Where there is a water source, replenish water in a timely manner to maintain normal grain filling and seed setting of plants. Where water sources are scarce, pay attention to saving water. For fields where development is delayed due to drought, carry out artificial supplementary pollination in a timely manner to increase the seed setting rate.Third, effectively carry out disease and pest prevention and control. Strengthen monitoring of the second generation of corn borer, the third generation of armyworm, and rice blast, release disease and pest information in a timely manner, carry out emergency control at the appropriate time, vigorously advance unified prevention and control, give play to the role of plant protection professional service organizations and efficient large-scale plant protection machinery, and improve control effects.Fourth, prevent early frost damage as early as possible. Make technical and material preparations for preventing early frost and implement response measures. In conjunction with disease and pest prevention and control, spray potassium dihydrogen phosphate, plant growth regulators, and other substances over a large area to promote early crop maturity and enhance cold resistance.Fifth, strengthen publicity and guidance. Vigorously publicize good practices and good experience in scientific drought relief, objectively reflect the drought situation and drought relief policies, correctly guide public opinion, and create a good atmosphere for drought relief and autumn harvest protection.
