How did Tianpeng Peony get its name?
The origin of the name "Tianpeng Peony"
Cymbidium goeringiiA rare flower, famous for its many varieties and thousands of forms, with countless varieties blooming in competition, yet one variety has now conquered allorchid growershearts, and conquered the entireorchidmarket. It truly deserves to be called the king of ten thousand flowers, and this is the Tianpeng Peony.
The Tianpeng Peony is unquestionably the top rare flower among Cymbidium goeringii. When it blooms, its magnificent, grand, noble and gorgeous appearance has won recognition from people and the entire market alike. Countless lips in the flower stretch outward in rings, and the flower shape is as noble and gorgeous as China's national flower, the peony. Viewed from afar, it is like a peony slowly blooming; viewed up close, it is intoxicating, as if visible but beyond reach. Tracing the source of its name, it is closely connected to an elderly man. He is the person who named the Tianpeng Peony, Mr. Lan Zhiyin, former secretary of the Pengzhou Municipal Party Committee. We were fortunate to hear from him about the process of naming the Tianpeng Peony. Lan Zhiyin Speaking of naming this flower, we have to go back to early 2000. Pengzhou City, Sichuan Province, started orchid cultivation relatively early, and at that time there were many orchid growers, whoseappreciationstandards for orchids were also relatively high. In January of that year, a pot of rare Cymbidium goeringii in the orchid garden at the home of Mr. Xie Mingfa on Hualu Street in Pengzhou happened to bloom. At the time, one pot with five seedlings produced two flowers. He saw that the flowers were extremely gorgeous, with countless U-shaped lips in the center of the buds stretching outward in rings from the inside out, very spectacular, so he invited his good friend Mr. Lan Zhiyin, former secretary of the Pengzhou Municipal Party Committee, to admire them. After seeing this flower, Mr. Lan exclaimed that its gorgeousness made it the finest among flowers, and told Mr. Xie that a nice name must be given to this flower. At that time, there were 4 people present, and everyone discussed together how to name the flower. At first, someone suggested that since this pot of flowers bloomed so well in Pengzhou, it might simply be named "Pengzhou Peony." Everyone thought about it and felt it was acceptable, and they were about to formally name it that way, when Mr. Lan suddenly said: "That is not appropriate. Pengzhou has been famous since ancient times for abundantly producing peonies. There has long been a saying: 'In the Central Plains, Luoyang peony ranks first; in Shu, Tianpeng peony ranks first.' Since Pengzhou abounds in peonies, and Tianpeng Town has been the center of Pengzhou since ancient times, why not name it Tianpeng Peony? This way it will carry more historical and cultural flavor." Afterward, those present all felt this name was quite good. It not only had historical and cultural flavor, but also highlighted a gorgeous and noble charm, so everyone unanimously agreed to name it "Tianpeng Peony." From that day on, the Tianpeng Peony got its name. In March 2000, Mr. Xie Mingfa and Mr. Lan took this pot of the rare Cymbidium goeringii named Tianpeng Peony to participate in the 20th Hangzhou National Orchid Exposition. As soon as it appeared, the Tianpeng Peony was sought after by everyone, and it won the gold award at that year's orchid exhibition. From then on, the rare Cymbidium goeringii "Tianpeng Peony" began to become famous throughout the country. (This article was dictated by Mr. Lan Zhiyin and compiled by the New Orchid Network.)
