How does orchid shed ventilation affect orchid growth?
The effect of orchid shed ventilation on orchid growth
Air circulation can improve theorchidgrowing environment's temperature and helps maintain optimal growing humidity. Air circulation can promptly replenish theorchidgrowing environment with the carbon dioxide consumed by photosynthesis and keep its content stable, thereby improving photosynthetic efficiency. Air circulation can effectively lower the relative humidity around the orchid shed and orchid nursery. Suitable humidity is very important fororchidgrowth, and regulating relative humidity is the key to the problem. The breeding of powdery mildew, black spot, anthracnose, aphids, scale insects and so on is all related to humidity. Therefore, if relative humidity is well regulated, the occurrence ofpests and diseasescan be effectively suppressed. In spring, orchid sheds and orchid nurseries generally have too much humidity but not high temperatures, so there is no need to worry too much; just do a good job of ventilation and drainage. In summer, because of the scorching sun, orchid sheds and orchid nurseries all have the problem of excessively high temperatures. Therefore, ventilation alone is not enough; a high-pressure misting cooling method should also be adopted. If ventilation is combined with high-pressure misting, cooling and moisture retention work even better. The suitable relative humidity for orchid growth is between 70% and 80%. When the temperature drops at dusk, the relative humidity will rise. At this point, stop misting and let the water droplets on the orchid leaf surface evaporate, preventing the leaves from being in a wet state for 8 consecutive hours. Of course, the situation of growingorchidson balconies and rooftops is rather special; misting can be done at dusk or even from 7 o'clock to 8 o'clock in the evening. In autumn, because orchid sheds and orchid nurseries are dry from wind, their temperatures will rise sharply. At this time, orchids need to be misted or given an appropriate amount of water so that the orchids maintain relative humidity, but ventilation must be provided. In winter, when the sun sets, the temperature in orchid sheds and orchid nurseries will drop noticeably, and the relative humidity will also rise rapidly. At this time, before the temperature drops to the point where water droplets appear on the orchid leaves, the windows on the sides of the orchid shed or the shade net should be opened for ventilation, so that the orchid shed and orchid nursery maintain relative humidity without letting the temperature drop too much, so as not to affect orchid growth.
