Autumn Orchid Management Methods and Care Points

Random Talk on Autumn Orchid Management

The weather now no longer has the fierce heat of midsummer; you could say we have already entered autumn, and manyorchid growersin ordinary environmentsorchidshave once again welcomed their second golden growth period. In this second golden growth period, in the face of our belovedorchids, what should we do? Xinyu Xian will ramble a few words first; beyond that, please let otherorchid growerswho are experts add their thoughts, thank you.
          1. Fertilize according to need. Orchids that have been in semi-dormancy through summer will grow rapidly once the climate changes, and some second-generation shoots and flower buds emerge one after another. But everyone also knows that without a normal supply of nutrients, for orchids to grow large and flower buds to open is all empty talk. Therefore, orchids should be fertilized appropriately. To be honest, I am a minimalist grower, but that does not mean I use no fertilizer. That is because I use mountain humus soil, which already contains the nutrients orchids need for growth. But for orchids that have been planted for more than a year and have not been repotted, I still fertilize them. However, note that you cannot fertilize uniformly or use the same amount for all; you must fertilize according to the different conditions of each orchid.
           2. Firmly carry out the policy of "no dryness in autumn," because autumn rainfall is relatively reduced and air humidity is relatively low. So, in addition to keeping the orchid pots "moist," you must also ensure the humidity of the orchid room environment. I generally use a water curtain. Of course, some orchid friends use humidifiers, place water basins under the orchid shelves, splash water on the floor, and so on. Specifically, it depends on each orchid friend's actual environment.
           3. Give sufficient light and appropriately increase light, especially for late-emerging autumn shoots. Because the temperature difference between day and night in autumn is relatively obvious, aside from slightly shading the midday sun, let the orchids receive sunlight the rest of the time. I think that in autumn, increasing light for orchids is a good way to promote flower buds, strengthen seedlings, and increase next year's shoot production rate.
           4. Strengthen ventilation and preventpests and diseases. I generally, at the turn of summer and autumn, use fungicide solution and insecticide solution alternately once on the orchid room and orchids to sterilize, disinfect, and kill insects, so as to prevent trouble before it happens and avoid the occurrence of variouspests and diseases.
         5. Repot and divide plants appropriately. I generally repot orchids that have been grown for more than 2 years, replanting them with new potting medium. If some orchid seedlings have multiplied a lot and the pot is crowded, then tip out the pot and divide the plants appropriately. However, note that for divided orchids, you must protect the wounds well. Of course, for the specific conditions of the orchids, orchid friends should treat them individually and handle them differently.
