The ancient orchid text "Jinzhang Lanpu" was written by Zhao Shigeng of the Song Dynasty.

Song Dynasty, Zhao Shigeng, "Jinzhang Lanpu": "If the terrace is too high, it will be struck by the yang sun; if too low, it will be hidden from the wind. The front should face southwest, the back should face north, so as to let in the southern breeze and block the north wind. The ground need not be vast, for if vast it will be exposed to the sun; nor should it be narrow, for if narrow it will trap the air. The right side should be near a grove, the left side should be near open country, so as to draw in the eastern sun and avoid the western sun. In summer, when scorching days come, shade it; in winter, when bitter cold comes, expose it. The lower sand should be loose, for if loose, continuous rain cannot waterlog it; the upper sand should be moist, for if moist, fierce sun cannot dry it. As for inserting frames to guide the leaves, leveling the sand that protects the roots, guarding against injury by earthworms, and forbidding the burrows of ants: remove weeds and clear away the silk, help the new shoots, and cut away the withered leaves. This is the method of loving and caring for them."
