Will rural household registration become more and more valuable in the future?
Household registration reform has finally broken the ice and moved forward, but the fact that nine out of ten farmers are unwilling to exchange their land for a hukou will clearly affect the efficiency of the household registration system reform. In response, Ye Yijian, dean of the Phoenix City and Tourism Research Institute, said on the program "Face to Face with Economic Hotspots" that people's thinking about urban hukou and rural hukou actually revolves around land. If there is land expropriation compensation, even hukou in remote rural areas will be eagerly sought by many people. When currently discussing household registration reform policies, this perspective of examination cannot be abandoned either.
Ye Yijian said that in a village and town in Luoyang City, Henan Province, for several consecutive years there has been a reverse flow phenomenon of non-agricultural hukou being converted to rural hukou, which is exactly the opposite of farmers' desire for urban hukou. After investigation, it was learned that the town wanted to expropriate land to develop an industrial park, and the corresponding land expropriation compensation made local villagers realize that land had become valuable, so many people who had already moved their hukou out quickly tried to find ways to convert their hukou from urban hukou back to rural hukou.
