When will the last mile of agricultural sci-tech achievements from the laboratory to the field be opened up?
New agricultural technologies emerge one after another, new achievements keep pouring in, and new ideas are rapidly updated, but why do the fields and the land still basically look the same as before? Some farmers and agricultural experts told reporters that although in recent years some benefits have been achieved by relying on new agricultural technologies, they feel that many new technological achievements are still some distance from the fields and the land.
Jiang Chuanbao, a villager from Shaojia Village, Liuhe Town, Liuhe County, Jilin Province, planted more than 50 mu of corn this year. At the Changchun Agricultural Expo held not long ago, Jiang Chuanbao saw many new technologies for high corn yields. While envious, he was also somewhat anxious: When can we use such good technology?
“New technologies are certainly very helpful for increasing yields and improving quality, but usually no one teaches us, and the agricultural technology publicity organized above does not go into much depth.” Jiang Chuanbao said.
Shang Tingyu, a villager from Renhe Village, Songshan Town, Panshi City, Jilin Province, has encountered the same confusion.“I especially want to understand new technologies for corn accumulated temperature, pesticide application, and topdressing. Usually I can see some agricultural technology publicity, but few technicians come to teach us.” he said.
Some farmers said that the publicity of new agricultural technologies organized by agricultural departments is indeed very useful for farming, but rural areas are too large, and it is impossible to reach every village. This kind of promotion, like "sprinkling sesame salt," is very difficult to make effective.
Agricultural technology expert Zhang Xishan, general manager of Jilin Province Laixing Feed Co., Ltd., often goes to rural areas to promote technology, and the farmers' urgent desire for new technologies has deeply moved him.“When we hold training classes for farmers and distribute materials, the farmers are very happy, and they also hope we will come often.” Zhang Xishan said.
Wang Wansheng, an agricultural expert at the Changchun Mutian Agricultural Science Research Institute, said that to truly increase grain production and change farmers' production concepts, helping agriculture with science and technology and invigorating agriculture with science and technology is the only way. But judging from the current situation, the distance between new technologies and farmland is still very far.“Our high-yield corn technology is already very mature, but due to a lack of promotion, many farmers do not dare to try it.” Wang Wansheng said.
The reporter learned that farmers very much look forward to new technologies and new methods being promoted in rural areas in a more normalized way.“I really hope agricultural experts can come more often to guide us, especially with some normalized technical guidance, and help us increase the scientific and technological content of farming.” Jiang Chuanbao said.
Zhang Xishan suggested that agricultural departments should organize experts more often and frequently carry out roving technical instruction in the countryside, connecting new technologies with the "last mile" to the fields and the land, so that farmers can benefit.
Wu Yiyan, chairman of the Taiwan Ecological Agriculture Development Association, told the reporter that closely combining scientific and technological achievements with farmers' production is currently the common practice in Taiwan's agriculture. Driven by new technologies, farmers have seen the benefits, and their enthusiasm for production has also clearly increased.“New technologies are certainly good, but the most important thing is to let farmers come into contact with new technologies more and feel the role of new technologies. This is the fundamental purpose of developing new agricultural technologies.” Wu Yiyan said.
