As part of the 4th China-Eurasia Expo, the SCO Livestock Development and Cooperation Seminar was held on September 3. The meeting focused on strengthening practical cooperation among SCO member states in areas such as livestock breeding, farming, and livestock product processing and trade. Relevant officials from the Ministry of Agriculture pointed out that in the future, cooperation with SCO member states will be carried out in multiple areas, and capable enterprises will be encouraged to go abroad. Industry insiders believe that as cooperation deepens, livestock-related companies in Xinjiang such as Western Animal Husbandry, Tianrun Dairy, and Tecon Biology are expected to benefit.

Encouraging Enterprises to Go Global

Vice Minister of Agriculture Niu Dun put forward four suggestions for future livestock cooperation among SCO member states. First, actively carry out exchanges and cooperation in livestock science and technology, and encourage and support research institutions in conducting scientific research and technical exchanges in areas such as livestock breed resources, improved breed breeding, disease diagnosis, feed, and livestock product processing and quality safety. Second, strengthen cooperation in animal disease prevention and control, establish and improve the veterinary cooperation mechanism among member states, and strengthen notification of animal disease outbreaks and exchanges of disease prevention and control experience. Third, deepen cooperation in human resource development, and strengthen cooperation among member states in human resource development in areas such as farming technology, livestock breed improvement, integrated disease prevention and control, and livestock product safety. Fourth, promote investment cooperation among enterprises, actively build cooperation platforms for enterprises, and encourage and support enterprises in strengthening investment cooperation in areas such as livestock and poultry farming, animal vaccine research and development and production, feed production, and livestock product processing and trade.

Wang Zongli, Deputy Director of the Department of Animal Husbandry of the Ministry of Agriculture, pointed out that in recent years, the Ministry of Agriculture has successively issued and implemented national genetic improvement plans for pigs, dairy cattle, beef cattle, laying hens, and broiler chickens, and that positive progress has been made in livestock and poultry improvement work. Standardized large-scale farming is the development direction of modern animal husbandry, and the Ministry of Agriculture supports farms and households in developing moderate-scale livestock and poultry farming through measures such as policy support and technical guidance.

Wang Zongli pointed out that China's animal husbandry adheres to the development strategy of "bringing in" and "going global," introducing a large number of excellent livestock and poultry germplasm resources and advanced practical technologies from developed countries in animal husbandry, while also encouraging and supporting capable enterprises to go abroad and participate in exchanges and cooperation in the international market. Next, the Ministry of Agriculture will proceed from the actual situation of China's animal husbandry development and actively explore exchanges and cooperation with SCO member states in areas such as improved livestock and poultry breeding, moderate-scale standardized farming, resource utilization of livestock and poultry manure, and import and export trade of livestock products.

Livestock-Related Companies to Benefit

It is worth noting that during the meeting, leaders of the Ministry of Agriculture led participating members from various countries to visit Western Animal Husbandry and Tianrun Dairy, promoting these two enterprises in going global. Industry insiders pointed out that Western Animal Husbandry and Tianrun Dairy are leading livestock enterprises in Xinjiang. Western Animal Husbandry is the meat industry resource integration platform designated by the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps, and Tianrun Dairy is the dairy industry integration platform of the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps. As cooperation with other countries deepens, the two companies are expected to benefit.

Western Animal Husbandry has the seed stock advantage for developing beef and mutton, and as policies are gradually put in place, the company's dairy cattle and beef cattle industries are expected to achieve rapid development. In fact, Western Animal Husbandry has already begun cooperation with other countries. Xu Yimin, Chairman of Western Animal Husbandry, previously said in an interview with the media that the company plans to cooperate with Kazakhstan, introducing and breeding Kazakh one-humped camels. Kazakh one-humped camels have high milk production, and Western Animal Husbandry will next produce camel milk powder. Western Animal Husbandry also plans to introduce dairy goats and is negotiating with some farms in Kazakhstan, preparing to build a base in Kazakhstan.

In addition, Tecon Biology mainly engages in the production and sales of biological vaccines and feed for livestock and poultry, and is the only designated veterinary biological products manufacturer of the Ministry of Agriculture in Xinjiang. As cooperation in animal vaccine research and development and production, feed production, and other areas is carried out, Tecon Biology is expected to benefit.
