Red dates, red chili peppers, green melons, green vegetables, purple grapes, black fungus, poultry and livestock meat products…… on one exhibition stand after another, the colorful green organic agricultural products attracted a large number of guests to stop, taste and admire. On the 11th, at the first Silk Road International Ecological Industry Expo opened in Zhangye, Gansu, numerous green organic agricultural products were shining at the expo.

In the green agriculture and organic products exhibition area, the reporter saw an endless stream of people enthusiastically viewing the wide variety of green organic agricultural products.

“There really are so many varieties.” said Zu Zhibin, a buyer from the Hebei Council for the Promotion of International Trade, with emotion. “Zhangye‘s reputation as the ‘Hexi Granary’ is truly well deserved. Green organic foods closely related to our daily lives, such as vegetables, eggs, meat and poultry, can all be seen here.”

On that day, the first Silk Road International Ecological Industry Expo and Green Organic Products (Zhangye) Trade Fair opened in Zhangye City, Gansu Province. More than 500 enterprises from 10 countries and regions including Pakistan, Ghana, Vietnam, Italy, Thailand, Myanmar, South Korea and Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan, China, as well as 31 provinces, municipalities and autonomous regions across the country, participated in the exhibition.

The reporter learned that in recent years, Zhangye City, known as the “Gobi Oasis,” has been committed to developing modern ecological agriculture. In accordance with the requirements of “more sunlight, less water, land saving, high efficiency,” it has developed facility agriculture, and the production of pollution-free agricultural products, green foods and organic agricultural products has gradually moved toward the track of specialization, large-scale operation and standardization. Zhangye‘s advantageous industries, such as corn seed production, livestock and poultry breeding, plateau summer vegetables, Chinese medicinal materials, potatoes, edible fungi, and forestry and fruit crops, have distinctive characteristics. It is currently the largest hybrid corn seed breeding base in the country and one of the national pilot demonstration areas for agricultural reform and construction.

“We have built 3 million mu of standardized agricultural product bases and 2.3 million mu of pollution-free agricultural product bases, and we are the largest beef production base in the northwest region and China‘s high-quality grape production base.” said Huang Zeyuan, mayor of Zhangye City. “At this expo, we want to promote Zhangye‘s ‘green organic products’ brand and let more people at home and abroad know about, understand and participate in the expo in various ways, jointly promoting the development of regions along the Silk Road to achieve positive interaction.”

Located in the middle section of the Hexi Corridor in Gansu Province, Zhangye City has since ancient times been a key passageway and important merchant town on the Silk Road, and is also an important node city of the “Silk Road Economic Belt.” It has long enjoyed the reputation of “Jiangnan beyond the Great Wall” and “Hexi Granary.”
