Red roses represent passion and romance, yellow roses symbolize friendship, and pink roses express gratitude. If you can't make up your mind, or want to let a lady guess what's on your mind, then you might want to try rainbow roses. This kind of colored rose is called a rainbow rose or a happy rose, and is the latest novelty gift variety to appear. Rainbow roses are transformed from white roses; the specific process is to have the stem of the white rose absorb edible pigments of different colors from the cultivation water in stages, which are then transported to the petals. This process takes 12 to 24 hours, but how different petals display different colors is unknown. This is the inventor, DutchOrchidflorist Peter van de Werken's trade secret. Before cultivating rainbow roses, he had also cultivated colored chrysanthemums. Werken first bought long-stemmed Vendela roses, dyed them, and then distributed them around the world. Rainbow roses still carry a sweet fragrance, and their blooming period is as long as that of ordinary roses, but the leaves may fall off quickly. Annual sales of rainbow roses reach more than 1 million stems, mainly sold to Japan, Italy and Sweden. Among these, Sweden is the most prominent, with the variety sold to that country being blue and yellow, closely resembling the Swedish national flag. Now British people can buy rainbow roses through the online flower-selling website Interrose.co.uk. But rainbow roses are not cheap, with a single stem priced at 24.49 pounds and 12 stems priced at 64.87 pounds, more than twice the price of the same number of red roses.
