Steady progress in the battle against late rice pests and diseases, going all out to snatch grain from the jaws of insects

At present, autumn grain crops in most parts of the country have gradually entered the harvest period, but the double-cropping late rice in South China and Jiangnan and the single-cropping late rice in the middle and lower reaches of the Yangtze River are at the heading and grain-filling stage, which is a critical period for yield formation and also an important period for the occurrence and damage of pests and diseases at the ear stage. In particular, in some areas this autumn a "late autumn without cool weather" climate has appeared, which may lead to an increase in the number of generations of the "two migrations" pests in late rice, an extended period of damage, and a tendency to break out suddenly into disaster. Pest and disease prevention and control in the later period still cannot be relaxed.

Pest and disease prevention and control in the later period still cannot be relaxed.

In response, the Ministry of Agriculture requires agricultural departments at all levels in the relevant areas to continue to fight the battle against late rice pests and diseases and strive to achieve “snatching grain from the jaws of insects” to ensure a bumper harvest. First, strengthen monitoring and early warning. Carry out a comprehensive survey of pest conditions, achieve a “clear base and clear situation,” accurately grasp the dynamics of occurrence and development, and clearly identify key prevention and control fields and key prevention and control periods; second, strengthen emergency prevention and control. Focus on key areas and heavily affected fields, adopt a combination of specialized unified prevention and control and mass prevention and mass control measures, carry out emergency control at the appropriate time, and strictly prevent disaster damage; third, strengthen supervision and inspection. Strictly implement the supervision and inspection system of division into areas with responsibility assigned, organize experts for roving guidance, ensure that prevention and control measures are put in place and technical measures are implemented in the rice fields, and go all out to “snatch grain from the jaws of insects” to ensure a bumper harvest.
