Reducing Non-Point Source Pollution, Agricultural Science and Technology Innovation Strongly Promotes the Organic Fertilizer Industry
On September 26, the “Symposium on Agricultural Science and Technology Innovation and Organosilicon Water-Soluble Slow-Release Fertilizer”, co-hosted by the National Agricultural Technology Extension Service Center and Farmer's Daily, and co-organized by Hebei Silicon Valley Agricultural Science Research Institute and Hebei Silicon Valley Fertilizer Co., Ltd., was held in Beijing. More than 300 participants attended the meeting, including agricultural science and technology workers, large grain growers and people from the agricultural materials sector from various regions. They held in-depth discussions on topics such as agricultural technology innovation, agricultural environmental friendliness, agricultural product safety, and the application and promotion of organosilicon water-soluble slow-release fertilizer, and agreed that reducing agricultural non-point source pollution and strongly advancing fertilizer industry innovation are imperative.
During the symposium, the participants stated that the development of modern agriculture depends on the research, development, promotion and application of advanced agricultural science and technology. Especially now that national grain production has achieved “ten consecutive increases”, solving agricultural non-point source pollution and developing environmentally friendly and efficient agricultural input products are increasingly important. Among these, improving the fertilizer utilization rate has always been an international challenge. At present, developed agricultural countries such as the United States and Israel have a fertilizer utilization rate of more than 60%, while China is a major fertilizer-using country. In 2011, the national fertilizer use volume (converted to pure nutrients) reached 57 million tons, increasing by about 2% each year, while the fertilizer utilization rate was only 30%-35%. The loss ratio is relatively high, and it has also caused pollution to cultivated land.
In 2004, Song Furu, a deputy to the National People's Congress and an expert enjoying special government allowances from the State Council, used the innovation capacity of the Silicon Valley Agricultural Science Research Institute to apply many of his organosilicon new material research and development achievements to the field of fertilizer production. After nearly 10 years of unremitting efforts, he successfully developed organosilicon water-soluble slow-release fertilizer, effectively solving the major problem that had long plagued the fertilizer field, namely that “water solubility and slow release cannot be achieved at the same time”. This greatly improved fertilizer utilization efficiency and helped China's fertilizer field science and technology innovation work reach a new level.
Organosilicon water-soluble slow-release fertilizer applies organosilicon new materials to water-soluble fertilizer for the first time. It can effectively improve the soil aggregate structure and has super-strong dispersibility. The main advantages of this product are that it is fully water-soluble and can buffer fertilizer nutrients in the soil. It has a close affinity with soil and will not be lost through irrigation or rain. In particular, it increases the utilization rate of phosphate fertilizer to 60%, turning phosphorus from a static state into a dynamic flow, making it so that “roots finding phosphorus becomes phosphorus flowing to the roots for absorption”, greatly enhancing the absorption function of crops for nitrogen, potassium and other elements, improving the farmland ecological environment, and improving crop quality.
In recent years, through experimental application in multiple provinces and across multiple crop varieties, the utilization rate of organosilicon water-soluble slow-release fertilizer has reached more than 80%. In 2011, the company cooperated with the Cotton Research Institute of the Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences. After applying organosilicon water-soluble slow-release fertilizer, the seed cotton yield per mu in cotton fields reached more than 1000 jin, setting the highest record in Hebei's history.
In 2013, after Liuhan Village in Yongnian County used organosilicon water-soluble slow-release fertilizer, the actual measured and harvested yield of a 200-mu wheat demonstration field was 760.18 kg per mu, creating the highest wheat yield in Hebei Province's history. After Academician Yuan Longping applied organosilicon water-soluble slow-release fertilizer to hybrid rice, the effect was remarkable. He made a special trip to Silicon Valley Company to inspect its work and gladly wrote an inscription: Silicon Valley Fertilizer, Created in China. In 2014, the actual measured and harvested yield of wheat in this demonstration area reached as high as 818.67 kg per mu. Academician Yuan Longping said excitedly: This is truly remarkable, gratifying and worthy of celebration!
