I like to separate old growths

and then let the old growths sprout and regain vigor

I think it is very interesting

so I never tire of doing it

I found a way to make old growths useful twice

For a clump of orchids, wait until the new lead growth's shoot has just broken through the surface

(the emergence of this shoot is thanks to the old growths behind it, especiallyCymbidium faberi)

cut at this time, otherwise the shoot from the front lead plant will not grow large

When cutting, be sure to keep the wound as small as possible

As the temperature rises

and metabolism speeds up

the old growths will sprout very quickly

without delaying the next spring's new growth

For example: a three-growth 'Da Yi Pin', one old growth plus a grandmother growth with one or two leaves, four or five roots

The new shoot currently has five leaves and nine roots

Rubbing the roots

After taking the orchid out of its pot, hold it under a water pipe with running water (a smaller flow), and gently rub each root with your fingertip. When rubbing old roots, they feel a bit slippery at first, and after rubbing for a while they feel a bit rough. After rubbing, let them dry (until the root surface is dry), about two hours or so. Pot them up, keep them in shade for about half a month, then move to routine care.

Every time we water and fertilize, some harmful salts are deposited on the root surface. Doing this removes these harmful salts and makes the old growths rejuvenate. This way, the old roots recede very slowly, the new growths have enough nutrients before they send out roots, and the new growths easily grow into large plants. Never use hormones, as this will make the orchid's old growths age prematurely.
