For Jiangsu and Zhejiang, from early May to the end of July is the golden growing period for springCymbidium faberi, and also the period for growing foliage and promoting flowering. The management of Cymbidium orchids during these three months, especially for developing flower buds, is crucial. Everyone knows that for Jiangnan, from late July to early August, the flower buds of springCymbidium faberiemerge from the soil one after another. Below I will share my fertilization schedule over the years for everyone's reference. (My potting medium is Xiantu soil and Zhijinshi stone, and the following fertilizer amounts are used for this; if using humus soil and mountain soil, the fertilizer amount should be appropriately reduced.) Starting from May, you can apply Huabao No. 5 2-3 times, mainly to promote young bud growth. (You can also use a self-mixed compound fertilizer with heavy nitrogen, light potassium, and little phosphorus.) Starting from June, you can apply Huabao No. 4 2-3 times, mainly to promote leaf growth. (You can also use a self-mixed compound fertilizer with a nitrogen-phosphorus-potassium ratio of 1:1:1.) From late June to late July, you can withhold water and dry the pots twice, and during this period, apply Huabao No. 3 or monopotassium phosphate 2-3 times in coordination. In this way, according to theory, the golden three months of growing foliage and promotingfloweringwill have passed. In August and September, appropriately apply some phosphorus and potassium fertilizer or Huabao No. 3, which can both strengthen the plants and promote strong flower buds.
