New rice varieties "compete in the same field" to pave the way for increased grain production
As the rice harvest season approaches, the rice variety demonstration area at the Jinsha New District rice planting experimental demonstration zone presents a scene of bountiful harvest. Recently, the Seed Management Office of the Municipal Agriculture Committee organized more than 50 people, including staff from the Municipal Agricultural Technology Promotion Center, Jinsha New District, agricultural officials and seed dealers from all districts and counties, large-scale rice growers, and farmer representatives, to observe on site the planting results of new rice varieties.
The observers arrived at the new rice variety demonstration area and walked along the smooth, straight, hardened field ridges. They saw that the demonstration plots for each rice variety were neat and standardized with clear labels, and the abundant rice ears formed a beautiful landscape. Professional technicians from the Municipal Seed Management Office focused on introducing to the observers the characteristics and traits of 16 excellent rice varieties approved in recent years, including Longjing 25, Longjing 26, Zhonglongdao 1, Suijing 4, and Mudanjiang 29, as well as soilless seedling-raising technology, and answered various questions raised on site about problems existing in rice production.
In recent years, in order to promote the sustainable development of rice production and select leading varieties suitable for the city's market demand, production conditions, and planting habits, the Municipal Agriculture Committee has comprehensively examined the adaptability and high-yield performance of each new variety, providing a scientific basis for the large-scale promotion of high-quality new varieties. A relevant person in charge of the Municipal Seed Management Office said that it is necessary to closely focus on the theme of grain production safety and increasing farmers' income, guide farmers to accept new agricultural technologies, accelerate the transformation of agricultural scientific and technological achievements and the promotion of new agricultural technologies, improve the total amount and quality of grain production, and provide reliable guarantees for the city's grain production increase, farmers' income increase, and agricultural efficiency improvement.
The observers made key records and took photos of the new varieties with excellent quality, strong resistance, and good yield performance, and were also very interested in the soilless seedling-raising technology. Everyone agreed that displaying new varieties plays a guiding role for farmers in selecting seeds and for dealers in supplying seeds, and is conducive to the selection of new rice varieties. They hoped to accelerate the transformation of agricultural scientific and technological achievements and truly help farmers obtain tangible benefits.
