At the invitation of FAO Director-General Graziano da Silva, Premier Li Keqiang of the State Council will visit the headquarters of the UN Food and Agriculture Organization on October 15. This is the first visit by a Chinese leader to the FAO headquarters, and he will deliver a speech at the FAO headquarters to expound China's agricultural policy and food security and share China's experience with the world. China is one of the founding members of the FAO, which presented the “Agricola Medal” to Jiang Zemin and Wen Jiabao in 1998 and 2012 respectively, in recognition of their contributions to developing world agriculture and promoting global food security.

Since the 18th National Congress of the Communist Party of China, the central leadership has attached great importance to food security. Last year's Central Economic Work Conference placed “food security” in the foremost position for the first time, and the 2014 No. 1 Central Document once again emphasized improving the national food security guarantee system and paying greater attention to food quality and quality safety. President Xi and Premier Li have also delivered important speeches on food security on multiple occasions. On October 8, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated that China has consistently followed and attached importance to world food security and poverty issues, actively participates in relevant international cooperation, and values exchanges and cooperation with the UN Food and Agriculture Organization. On the same day, the Chinese government website published an article titled “Minister of Agriculture: Fully Implement the National Food Security Strategy Under the New Situation.”

Food security involves national security and stability, and the Party and the government attach great importance to it. A research report by AVIC Securities shows that effectively safeguarding national food security was listed first among this year's six major tasks, indicating that against the backdrop of China's grain output growing for ten consecutive years and production exceeding the 600 million ton mark for the first time, the food issue remains severe, and there must be no slackening on the food security issue. At present, food security has become a national strategic issue and has risen to the level of a basic national policy of our country. Industry insiders believe that, considering the current state of food security and the future direction of modern agricultural development, food security is an investment opportunity worthy of long-term attention.
