Since the beginning of this year, as the negative impact of avian influenza has faded, chicken consumption has gradually emerged from its trough, but due to the earlier reduction in day-old chick restocking, supply and demand in the broiler market have been severely unbalanced. Since August, broiler prices have rapidly broken through the high point of 10 yuan per kg. However, when a reporter interviewed in Hebei, he found that local broiler farmers, despite facing high prices, could not feel happy about it.

Shi Shushan began raising broilers in 2008 and has now been doing so for 6 years. After several years of development, his broiler farming scale has grown from more than 5,000 birds at the beginning to more than 7,000 now, with annual marketings reaching more than 40,000 broilers. Shi Shushan said that six years ago, by an accidental opportunity, he embarked on the path of broiler farming. That year he raised more than 30,000 chickens in total, made some money, and got a taste of the benefits of broiler farming.

Broiler farmer Shi Shushan: When we first started raising them, we raised 6 batches of chickens a year, an average of 5,500 per batch, and each batch could earn an average of 15,000 to 16,000 yuan. After deducting expenses and costs, we could keep around 100,000 yuan a year.

Old Shi said that the day-old chicks, feed, and veterinary drugs for local farmers are all uniformly supplied by the county's leading enterprise Huadu Food Co., Ltd., and broilers at market weight are also uniformly purchased by the company. A company-plus-farmers farming model has already taken shape, with a stable market. He had thought income could be further increased, but unexpectedly, fluctuations in the broiler market still brought him considerable impact.

Broiler farmer Shi Shushan: Now this batch of chickens needs 30 tons of feed, and each ton of feed has risen by more than 400 yuan. For this batch, 30 tons of feed means more than 10,000 yuan more. In terms of feed alone, that is more than 60,000 yuan extra a year. Not only has this risen, chicks cost more, medicine costs more, and the purchase price has also risen, but overall, there is still no profit.

During the interview, the reporter learned that there are more than 170 such farming households in Changshanyu Town, and many of these farmers face the same problems as Old Shi. Wang Guoping has also been engaged in broiler farming for 7 years, but because the benefits in the past two years have not been very good, Wang Guoping has begun to hesitate about whether to further expand the scale.

Broiler farmer Wang Guoping: When the benefits were good before, I planned to expand the scale further. We also have land behind us. Now, looking at the situation, feed prices have risen and medicine prices have risen too. Our costs have become higher, and we cannot make money either. These chickens are also not easy to raise. Let's see how the market looks later before deciding.
