The China Academy of Agricultural Sciences carried out an integrated experiment on high-yield and high-efficiency comprehensive rice technology this year. During interviews, reporters learned that the experimental results are encouraging, with yields about 10% higher than conventional planting.

Chen Mengshan, Party Secretary of the China Academy of Agricultural Sciences, said that in recent years, the growth rate of China's grain yield per unit area has been declining, and it is becoming increasingly difficult to raise yields. To continuously increase yield per unit area and boost total output, on the current very high base, it is difficult to achieve this by relying on a single variety or a single technology alone; greater attention must be paid to technology integration and coordinated research.

⟦NL> In this year's experiment, the China Academy of Agricultural Sciences integrated technologies from 6 institutes under it, including the Rice Research Institute, the Institute of Crop Sciences, the Institute of Plant Protection, the Institute of Agricultural Resources and Regional Planning, the Institute of Agricultural Mechanization, and the Institute of Environment and Sustainable Development in Agriculture, and tried 3 sets of high-yield and high-efficiency comprehensive technology models, namely: manual transplanting + aerobic irrigation + unified pest and disease control + mechanized harvesting; seedling throwing + plant protein immunity + unified pest and disease control + mechanized harvesting; soilless substrate seedling raising and its mechanical transplanting technology + unified pest and disease control + mechanized harvesting.

⟦NL> Chen Mengshan introduced that theoretical yield measurement and small-area actual cutting yield measurement at the demonstration site of Zhuhu Farm in Jiangxi showed that these 3 technology models all reached the basic goals of "early rice + double-season early-maturing late rice" yield exceeding 1200 kg and "early rice + double-season late-maturing late rice" yield exceeding 1300 kg, and increased yields by about 10% compared with conventional planting models.

⟦NL> Rice accounts for more than one-third of the output of China's three major grain crops, and about 65% of the national population uses rice as a staple food. Since the founding of New China, China's rice yield per mu has experienced two leaps: first, the dwarfing of rice in the late 1950s, and second, the promotion and application of hybrid rice after the mid-1970s. Both leaps increased the national rice yield per mu by nearly 50 kg.
