How should you manage so that in springorchidsproduce more shoots?
Hu Shengli, general manager of Yunnan Dali Languo Flower Industry Development Co., Ltd., answers:
To makeorchidsproduce more shoots and strong shoots, management is very important, and you need to pay close attention to temperature, light and humidity.
1. During the day, keep the temperature at around 25°C and the light at 7000 lux to 9000 lux. Do not shade when the temperature is below 28°C; when the light in the orchid room is insufficient on cloudy and rainy days, supplement the light. In addition, pay attention to widening the day-night temperature difference. When the daytime temperature is below 20°C, supplemental heating should be used, and the nighttime temperature should be regulated at 8°C to 14°C. When the nighttime temperature is low, orchidsrespire slowly and consume less nutrients, which helps the plants store the nutrients produced during the day, makes the pseudobulbs fuller, and only then can they produce more shoots. Supplemental heating during the day can make orchids enter the vegetative growth period earlier, and new shoots sprout earlier. The first batch of shoots will emerge in mid- to early April, and the second batch of shoots will emerge in mid- to late June, which will increase the rate of shoots reaching maturity that year.
2. Pay attention to air humidity and ventilation; humidity only needs to be controlled at around 70%. When supplemental heating is used during the day, the ventilation holes must not be closed, and at night more windows should also be opened to increase the oxygen in the air. During the day, air humidity should be kept at 65% to 80%, and at night at 70% to 90%. Slightly higher air humidity at night is beneficial for orchid leaves to absorb water, to replenish the water consumed by photosynthesis during the day. If the air humidity cannot meet the requirement, appropriate misting should be used. Theorchidgrowing medium should be moistened, but do not water the shoot area, and do not drown the shoots.
