Original-Pot Forced-Growth Rapid Propagation Method

It can be done at any time during the growing season, but April to May is best.

1. Withhold water from the pre-divided mother plant for more than 7 days, and work on a sunny day.

2. Scrape away the top layer of potting medium without disturbing the roots, find a good spot along the rhizome to divide the plant, and coat the wound with carbendazim.

3. Backfill the potting medium, but do not cover the pseudobulbs at first; leave the growth buds exposed. Place the treated single division in a cool, ventilated spot and do not water for 2-3 days. After that, apply a low-concentration sprouting agent to the exposed growth buds, and be careful never to let it drip into the pot. After the first hormone treatment, soak the pot in water up to three-quarters of its height; do not fill the pot to the brim with water. Cover most of the pot opening with cling film to retain moisture. Depending on the condition of the potting medium, soak it this way once every 1-3 weeks. Give it about 4 hours of sun after sunrise, and ensure bright indirect light the rest of the time. Usually buds will appear in about 2 months; then cover the pseudobulbs to retain moisture and encourage root growth.

4. Spray the leaves with Hyponex No. 5 fertilizer.
