Website news  Recently, at the on-site demonstration meeting for integrated technology of double-season late rice hosted by the Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences, 7 key technologies for double-season late rice production from variety selection, seedling raising, and field management to harvest were showcased, and the attending leaders and experts highly praised the encouraging results achieved in the integrated research on yield-increasing and efficiency-enhancing technologies.

At the observation site, relevant experts from the project team introduced one by one the characteristics of the high-yield and high-quality rice varieties “Guangliangyou 7203” “Guangliangyou 7217” “Nei 2 You 111” and “Zhongpuyou Huazhan”, as well as the characteristics and application effects of 7 core technologies, including aerobic rice cultivation technology, new light soilless substrate seedling-raising technology for machine-transplanted rice, plant immune elicitors, “Lili Bao” yield-increasing technology, high-yield low-carbon mechanized rice farming technology, laser land preparation technology, and field management technology suitable for unified pest and disease control.

According to researcher Cheng Shihua, chief technical director of the project and director of the China National Rice Research Institute, under the unified deployment of the Party Leadership Group of the Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences, the Rice Research Institute began last year to focus on the goal of “high yield, stable yield, high quality, and high efficiency”, joined forces with the Institute of Crop Sciences, Institute of Plant Protection, Nanjing Institute of Agricultural Mechanization, Institute of Agricultural Resources and Regional Planning, and Institute of Environment and Sustainable Development in Agriculture of the academy, and cooperated with local agricultural administration, research, teaching, and extension departments to fully promote the integration and demonstration of integrated technologies for increasing rice yield and efficiency. In major rice-producing provinces such as Jiangxi, Hubei, Hunan, and Guangxi, demonstration bases of different scales including 100 mu, 500 mu, and 1000 mu were established, integrating and displaying mature supporting technologies while also demonstrating new varieties and new technologies, achieving the approach of promoting each set once it is mature, obtaining remarkable results, and receiving very high evaluations from all parties.

According to the relevant person in charge of Zhuhu Farm, since the farm launched the integrated technology demonstration for double-season late rice, in just more than 3 months, 58 batches of new-type grain-growing entities such as large grain growers, family farms, and specialized cooperatives have conducted on-site inspections, and the demonstration effect has been good and well received by grain-growing farmers.

Chen Mengshan, secretary of the Party Leadership Group of the Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences, believed that this year's integrated demonstration of rice yield-increasing and efficiency-enhancing technologies achieved breakthroughs in 3 aspects. First, preliminary success was achieved in soilless substrate seedling-raising technology for rice. In recent years, factory-based dry seedling raising has developed rapidly, but the development of dry seedling raising requires taking soil from large areas, which is related not only to the cultivation of paddy soil fertility, but also to issues such as environmental protection and utilization of soil resources. The soilless seedling-raising substrate developed by the Rice Research Institute has 60% of its components from crop straw and 40% from natural minerals, and has good promotional value and potential. Second, 3 integrated technology models for increasing yield and efficiency were formed. According to variety and environmental characteristics, the demonstration sites assembled the 7 technologies into 3 models, achieving the basic goals of “early rice + double-season early-maturing late rice” yield exceeding 1200 kg and “early rice + double-season late-maturing late rice” yield exceeding 1300 kg. Third, the benefits of increasing rice yield and saving costs were significant. Compared with local main planted varieties using conventional technology, fields using the integrated technology increased yield by about 100 kg per mu, with income increasing by as much as 235 yuan; at the same time, compared with conventional technology, each mu saved about 50 yuan in materialized input and reduced labor input cost by about 200 yuan, increasing total benefit by nearly 500 yuan per mu.
