Orchid care tips for September: remember these key points
September orchid care notes

1. This month has two solar terms: White Dew (the 8th or 9th) and the Autumn Equinox (the 23rd or 24th). The average monthly temperature is similar to June, around 25°c. The summer heat gradually fades, and there is a slight hint of autumn.Orchids' roots and leaves are already very lush, so they can be given a bit more sunlight to increase theorchid plants' rigidity and strengthen their ability to resist disease and endure the cold through winter. A sparse shade screen can be used for shading, and from the last ten days of the month the shading work can basically be ended. However, in unusually hot weather, shading is still needed, and you must not be careless.
2. Correctly understand "autumn is not dry." In autumn, drought damage must be prevented, that is, preventing "water chestnut dryness." During long dry spells, more watering is still needed to avoid the potting medium becoming too dry, and it is better to keep it on the "moist" side. But if the rainy period is long, then attention must be paid to controlling water. After the weather clears, you cannot water just because the potting soil looks slightly dry; you must give theorchid plantsa chance to breathe. If flowers are desired, then water must be controlled to promote dryness and induce flower buds. The autumn climate is dry, so attention must be paid to increasing air humidity. Water can be sprayed on the ground; if conditions permit, a misting machine or water curtain can be used, and the humidifying effect will be better. But humidification must have a "limit." If humidity is too high, theorchid plants' ability to resist disease will decline, easily leading to disease. Be extremely careful about this.
3. This month is still in a period of frequent typhoons, so typhoon prevention work must be done well. During typhoons there will be fierce winds and rainstorms. After a typhoon, dry air currents may strike, and there may also be bright sun and oppressive heat. All of these must be guarded against.
4. This month scale insects, red spiders, aphids, slugs, and snails are very rampant, soft rotdisease and black spot disease occur frequently. Attention must be paid to insect killing and sterilization, but pesticides must not exceed the normal dosage. Attention must be paid to regularly changing the types of chemicals. The orchid site must be thoroughly disinfected 1 to 2 times each month. The best time for applying chemicals is still the evening, because when sprayed at this time, the liquid remains for a longer period, which helps enhance the insect-killing and sterilization effect.
5. After the Autumn Equinox solar term (in the last ten days of the month), the autumn air is crisp and refreshing, making it a great time for repotting and changing medium and for division propagation. Anyorchidsthat need repotting or division can be handled promptly during this period according to the key points for repotting and division.
6. This month various flower buds begin to emerge through the soil. The flower buds must be protected, and attention must be paid to observing and identifying the color, veins, and appearance of various flower buds to enhance the ability to distinguish different varieties. If they are to be enjoyed, it is best not to repot or divide. If the goal is propagation, to produce more new shoots and strong shoots next year, the flower buds can be removed. The method of removal: grasp the flower bud and twist, and it can be removed.
7. This month, fertilizer can be boldly applied to the orchid plants. Fertilization during this period is very important. It can not only promote this year's new plants to grow into large, strong plants, but also promote the orchid plants to accumulate nutrients, providing assurance for producing large shoots and growing large plants next year. Fertilization can be done once every 7 to 10 days, alternating root fertilization and foliar fertilization, and alternating organic fertilizer, inorganic fertilizer, and biological bacterial fertilizer. Attention must be paid to having a complete balance of nitrogen, phosphorus, and potassium, and appropriately increasing the proportion of phosphorus and potassium fertilizer. When applying organic fertilizer, insect killing and sterilization are required. The specific method is as follows: one day in advance, add insect-killing and sterilizing chemicals to the stock solution, then the next day dilute with water and irrigate. The effect is better.
8. This month is the golden season for orchid plant growth. In management, you can use "heavy fertilizer, heavy water, heavy sun," that is, fertilizer can be boldly applied, water can be applied with confidence, and the sun can be allowed to shine freely. But hands-off management is by no means reckless action: heavy fertilizer must not mean concentrated fertilizer, heavy water must not mean damaging with water, and heavy sun must not mean high-temperature exposure. Be careful of the "autumn tiger"; do not be careless.
9. After the "Autumn Equinox" solar term is another golden period for introducing and trading plants. You must seize the opportunity to seek new varieties and develop your own orchid garden. You must be willing to part with your surplus varieties. First, it can accumulate funds, using flowers to support flowers; second, it can make orchid friends, and at the same time it is easier to find the varieties you need. While transferring them, you also strengthen yourself.
