Green pest control spreads across China, pesticide use in demonstration areas reduced
Xinhua News Agency, Beijing, October 16 (Reporter Wang Yu) The reporter learned from the Ministry of Agriculture on the 16th that this year the Ministry of Agriculture organized in 31 provinces and regions across the country pilot work on the integrated promotion of unified pest and disease control and green control for 10 crops including rice, wheat, corn, vegetables and fruits. According to calculations, the amount of chemical pesticides used in the demonstration areas was reduced by 20%-30%, and the farmland ecological environment was significantly improved.
According to the introduction, unified control is an innovation in the organizational method of pest and disease control, and green control is an innovation in the technical system of pest and disease control. Promoting the two in an integrated way means that in the process of unified control, green control measures such as physical control, biological control and ecological control are widely adopted; in the process of green control, the role of unified control organizations and new agricultural production and operation entities is fully brought into play, with unified organization and implementation, effectively raising the level of organization and scientific standards of pest and disease control, reducing the amount of chemical pesticides used, ensuring the safety of agricultural production, the quality of agricultural products and the ecological environment, and promoting the sustainable development of agriculture.
According to the Ministry of Agriculture, judging from conditions in various places, the pilot results are very obvious: First, a number of technical models have been integrated. Various places, adapting measures to local conditions, integrated comprehensive pest and disease management models that are suitable for different crops, economical and practical, simple and easy to implement, and highly operable, laying the foundation for large-scale promotion and application. Second, pesticide reduction and pest harm control are remarkable. The demonstration areas reduced the amount of chemical pesticides used by 20%-30%, the farmland ecological environment was significantly improved, and the populations of natural enemies increased significantly. Third, cost savings and efficiency gains are remarkable. The demonstration areas increased yield by more than 8% per mu, saved costs and increased efficiency by 150-200 yuan, and the quality of agricultural products met national food safety standards. Fourth, the demonstration and driving effect is remarkable. This year, 538 demonstration areas were established, with a demonstration area of 9.2 million mu, radiating and driving 71.6 million mu.
The Ministry of Agriculture stated that it will strive to achieve a coverage rate of more than 30% for the integrated promotion of unified control and green control nationwide by 2020.
