Recently, the Agricultural IoT and Agricultural Product Quality and Safety Traceability sub-forum of the 2014 Agricultural Informatization Summit Forum was held in Qingdao, Shandong. Attending officials and experts believe that at present China's agricultural IoT application has shown notable results in five areas.

According to Guang Defu, inspector of the Agricultural Product Quality and Safety Supervision Bureau of the Ministry of Agriculture, and other participants, at present China's agricultural IoT application has shown notable results in five areas: First, in the fine monitoring and scheduling of agricultural resources, satellite-mounted high-precision sensing equipment is used to obtain fine agricultural resource information such as soil, soil moisture, and hydrology, and combined with an agricultural resource scheduling expert system to achieve scientific decision-making; Second, in the monitoring and management of the agricultural ecological environment, sensor perception technology, information fusion transmission technology, and internet technology are used to build an agricultural ecological environment monitoring network and realize automatic monitoring of the agricultural ecological environment; Third, in the fine management of agricultural production processes, it is applied to field planting, facility agriculture, orchard production, and livestock and aquaculture operations to achieve intelligent control and scientific management of the production process and improve resource utilization and labor productivity; Fourth, in agricultural product quality traceability, through full-process information perception, transmission, fusion, and processing of the production, circulation, and sales processes of agricultural products, full traceability of agricultural products "from farm to table" is achieved, safeguarding agricultural product safety; Fifth, in agricultural product logistics, barcode technology and radio frequency identification technology are used to collect and track product information, effectively improving the efficiency of agricultural products in warehousing and freight transport and promoting the development of agricultural product e-commerce.

Relevant personnel from the Ministry of Agriculture introduced that in 2013, the Ministry of Agriculture took the lead in implementing the agricultural IoT regional pilot project in Tianjin, Shanghai, and Anhui, supporting the three provinces and municipalities, according to their respective levels of economic, social, and agricultural development and industrial characteristics, to carry out experimental demonstrations in key areas respectively focusing on facility agriculture, dairy farming and aquaculture, full-process monitoring of agricultural product quality and safety and advancement of agricultural e-commerce, and field grain crop production monitoring, exploring a replicable, usable, and sustainable promotion and application model for agricultural IoT, gradually building the theoretical system, technical system, application system, standard system, organizational system, institutional system, and policy system of agricultural IoT, and promoting and applying it nationwide by region and in stages. At present, the project is progressing smoothly and has achieved phased results.
