Economic Daily, Beijing, November 3 (Reporter Qiao Jinliang) Today, the Ministry of Agriculture and the Agriculture and Rural Affairs Committee of the National People's Congress jointly held a symposium in Beijing on the 10th anniversary of the implementation of the Law on the Promotion of Agricultural Mechanization. Minister of Agriculture Han Changfu said that over the 10 years since the law was implemented, the central government's financial subsidies for the purchase of agricultural machinery have totaled more than 120 billion yuan, subsidizing the purchase of more than 35 million units (sets) of various types of agricultural machinery. China's level of agricultural machinery equipment, level of agricultural machinery operations, socialized agricultural machinery services, and agricultural machinery industry have achieved unprecedented leapfrog development.

According to reports, in 2014 the nation's total agricultural machinery power is expected to reach 1.05 billion kilowatts, an increase of 410 million kilowatts, or 64%, over 2004; the equipment structure is accelerating its development toward high horsepower, multi-function, and high performance, with the inventories of large and medium-sized tractors, combine harvesters, and rice transplanters exceeding 5.58 million, 1.52 million, and 660,000 units respectively, which are 5 times, 3.7 times, and 9.8 times those of 2004. The level of agricultural machinery operations has risen substantially. This year the national comprehensive mechanization level for crops is expected to exceed 61%, an increase of 27 percentage points over 2004. The mechanization rates for plowing, sowing, and harvesting of the 3 major grain crops all exceed 75%, and wheat production has basically achieved full-process mechanization.
