China's domestically bred grandparent stock layer chickens break the monopoly of imported breeds

In recent years, through the joint efforts of the government, enterprises and research institutes, China's layer chicken seed industry has achieved remarkable results. At present, domestically bred grandparent stock layer chickens have occupied half of the market, breaking the previous monopoly of imported breeds. This is what the author learned at the foundation-laying ceremony for the new site of the national-level layer chicken core breeding farm of Hebei Dawu Group. It is reported that the poultry breeding company of Hebei Dawu Agriculture and Animal Husbandry Group is among the first batch of layer chicken core breeding farms announced in China, and has long been committed to breeding and promoting domestic layer chicken breeds, achieving outstanding results in independent layer chicken breeding. It has successfully bred the "Jingbai 939" and "Dawu Fen No. 1" new layer chicken breed synthetic lines. The "Dawu Jinfen" layer chicken synthetic line currently being bred is the world's first red-feathered pink-shell layer chicken. Pilot promotion has proved that this synthetic line has good production performance, strong adaptability, high value of culled chickens, and good market prospects.

In recent years, China's layer chicken industry has developed steadily, with the level of large-scale, standardized and industrialized development continuously improving, and comprehensive production capacity significantly enhanced. In 2013, China's poultry egg output was 28.761 million tons, of which eggs accounted for about 80%, ranking first in the world and accounting for about 40% of the world's total egg output. Per capita poultry egg availability reached 21 kg, exceeding the level of developed countries. The Ministry of Agriculture attaches great importance to the development of the layer chicken industry. Through the implementation of standardized livestock and poultry breeding demonstration creation activities, 526 layer chicken standardized demonstration farms have been created in recent years, playing a positive radiating and driving role in accelerating the transformation of layer chicken production methods; through the implementation of the National Layer Chicken Genetic Improvement Plan, the technological innovation of the layer chicken seed industry has been accelerated, China's independent layer chicken breeding capacity has been enhanced, and the improved layer chicken breeding system has been improved; through the implementation of standardized livestock and poultry breeding projects and improved breed engineering projects, a large number of large-scale layer chicken farms and breeding chicken farms have been supported and built. In the future, focusing on the goal of accelerating the transformation and upgrading of the layer chicken industry, a more vibrant development environment will be created for the layer chicken industry from aspects such as policy design, planning guidance and scientific and technological support.
