Orchids thrive when they get ground energy: how to create such an environment on a balcony

Those that get "ground energy" grow vigorously: creating a balcony environment
Dry air, insufficient humidity and lack of ground energy are the bottlenecks restricting orchid growing on balconies. Therefore, to grow balcony orchids well, you must strive to create a small environment suitable for orchid growth, and you can work on the following three aspects.
Water troughs increase humidity and create ground energy. Although wild orchids are unattended, they grow well naturally. Investigating the reason, one very important aspect is that they are deeply nourished by ground energy, the air humidity is appropriate, water vapor continuously rises back, and the soil remains moist but not waterlogged all year round, so year after year they naturally contain fragrance. This is very different from the balcony environment of dry springs and autumns, muggy summers, and dry cold winters. This requires us to target the ecological habits of orchids and strive to create a small environment suitable for their growth. My method is to use hollow stainless steel to make a three-tier orchid rack, with a glass water trough set at the bottom of each tier. The orchid pots are placed on them, ventilated on all sides, which both increases air humidity and allows water vapor to flow continuously.
Humidifiers add moisture and promote ground energy. Dry air is the great enemy of balcony orchid growing. On clear days, the balcony air humidity is below 30%, which is very unfavorable for orchid growth. Relying only on water troughs to increase humidity is not enough; it must be solved through comprehensive humidification measures. The most effective method is to use a humidifier to raise air humidity. Through practice, I think an ultrasonic humidifier is relatively ideal for balcony orchid growing. An ultrasonic humidifier sprays finely and evenly, is light and convenient, saves electricity and is economical, and runs quietly and silently, making it very suitable for balcony orchid growing. Used properly, it can make the air humidity reach about 60%, basically meeting the humidity requirements of orchids.
Brick pieces under the pots preserve ground energy. Brick granules have tiny pores and have good water absorption, moisture retention and air permeability functions. Larger brick granules can be used as bottom filling material for pots, with a volume that can account for one third of the orchid pot capacity. This can effectively improve the ventilation and air permeability of the pot bottom, and can also use the strong water absorption and moisture retention of brick granules to keep the potting soil moist but not dry; at the same time, according to the season, the brick part at the bottom of the orchid pot can be soaked in water at the appropriate time, so that water vapor is slowly released, keeping the potting soil damp and ensuring sufficient ground energy, which can greatly reduce the occurrence of root rot and empty roots caused by orchids being stifled and steamed. In short, those that get ground energy grow vigorously. For balcony orchid growing, as long as you follow the principle of imitating nature and strive to create a small environment suitable for orchid growth, it is entirely possible to grow orchids well.
