How to treat orchid stem rot? I'll teach you the method to cure it completely
Complete cure for orchid stem rot
Complete cure for orchid stem rot
Symptoms:
¡It usually first attacks the mature orchid leaf sheaths and the tissues of the leaves near the base, spreading from the inside outward, and in severe cases causes deep rot of the pseudobulbs, which then causes the leaves to wilt. At the diseased sites and on cut surfaces, a dark brownish-red color can sometimes be seen.
¡After infection, the symptoms are not obvious at first; in summer high temperatures it presents as acute, while at low temperatures the disease course becomes very long again, several months or even longer, and the plant dies in a truly dreadful way.
¡It is the most damaging disease for Cymbidium faberi (Chinese cymbidium).
¡Pathogen:
¡The pathogen belongs to the genus Fusarium among the Fungi Imperfecti, Fusarium oxysporum-like Fusarium oxysporum (Fusarium oxysporum); its hyphae are septate and produce two kinds of spores, large and small. The small spores are spindle-shaped to long oval, and the large spores are generally sickle-shaped, hence the name. The colonies are white, peach-pink to purple-red, and the diseased tissue sometimes appears brownish-red.
¡Conditions for onset and routes of transmission:
¡Wounds, acidic potting media and high temperatures make this disease prone to epidemic. Wild-collected plants ("down-the-mountain grass") carrying the disease are also very common. The spores overwinter in diseased residual tissue and in contaminated substrate, and invade through water, wounds and manual handling.
¡Prevention and control:
¡1. Pay attention to diseased wild-collected plants.
¡2. Use Dexon at 800 times dilution to drench once as a preventive measure during high-temperature, high-incidence seasons.
¡3. When potting up wild-collected plants, drench with Dexon at 800 times dilution.
¡4. For diseased plants, change to a new pot and soil, use Dexon at 800 times dilution as the water for watering; after it dries, alternate one watering with one dose of the chemical, repeating three times in a row as one course of treatment. Generally it can be cured.
¡Dexon:
¡A yellow-brown powder, whose aqueous solution is red-brown; it is light-sensitive and will decompose under direct sunlight.
¡It was originally a soil fungicide, and when used on plants it has systemic penetrative properties; after being absorbed by plant roots and leaves it can maintain its efficacy for a relatively long time. It is harmless to plants.
¡It is harmful to humans and livestock, so wash your hands with soap after use.
¡It is generally available in agricultural supply stores.
¡How it was discovered:
¡Dexon is not some new drug; in agriculture it is mainly used for soil disinfection, and some experts have also casually suggested using it to prevent orchid diseases, but there was no evaluation of what diseases it prevents, how to prevent them, or how effective the prevention and control are. Through many years of screening drugs against orchid stem rot, I found that this drug has particularly good effects on the prevention and treatment of orchid stem rot. Later, after verification through guiding orchid enthusiasts in large-scale treatment and prevention of orchid stem rot, the effect was indeed especially good; it can be said to completely cure orchid stem rot, and it can also promptly prevent orchid stem rot on a large scale, very well solving the difficult problem that orchid stem rot was considered incurable.
