China will carry out research on green yield-increasing models to promote sustainable agricultural development
In recent years, the pressure on China's agricultural ecological environment has been steadily increasing. Bi Meijia, Chief Economist and Press Spokesperson of the Ministry of Agriculture, said on the 5th that China will carry out research on green yield-increasing models, striving to achieve a sustainable national food security strategy.
Bi Meijia made the above remarks at a press conference held by the State Council Information Office on the 5th.
Zeng Yande, Director of the Planting Industry Management Department of the Ministry of Agriculture, said at the press conference that China's agricultural ecological environment faces many challenges: low- and medium-yield fields account for 70% of the total cultivated land area, degraded cultivated land accounts for more than 40%, and polluted cultivated land area is relatively large. The rate of soil sampling points exceeding standards nationwide reaches 19.4%. Eutrophication of surface water in the south and nitrate pollution of groundwater in the north are prominent problems, and residual agricultural film is relatively abundant in the northwest and other areas.
Bi Meijia stated that China will carry out research on green yield-increasing models, integrating the green concept throughout the entire process of yield-increasing model research. In terms of technical paths, new varieties with high yield, high efficiency and multiple resistance will be promoted, large-scale, standardized and mechanized production will be advanced, the quality construction of cultivated land will be promoted, and technologies for cost-saving and efficiency enhancement such as controlled fertilizer, controlled pesticide and controlled water use will be vigorously promoted. The plan strives to achieve “zero growth” in the use of chemical fertilizers and pesticides in grain and agricultural production by 2020, and to strive to improve land output rate, input utilization rate and labor productivity.
⟦NL> It is understood that the Ministry of Agriculture is taking a series of measures to address agricultural ecological environment problems. These include improving acidic and salinized obstacle soils, building up soil fertility, and maintaining the fertility and water-holding capacity of cultivated land through soil testing and formula fertilization, integrated water and fertilizer management, and deep plowing and subsoiling. At the same time, efforts are focused on controlling the application amounts of chemical fertilizers and pesticides as well as pesticide residues, and controlling soil pollution from heavy metals and organic matter.
