Stabilizing Poultry Production and Poultry Product Supply: The Ministry of Agriculture Issues New Regulations
On December 6, Yu Kangzhen, Vice Minister of Agriculture, conducted a survey on H7N9 flu prevention and control work in Jiangsu Province. He emphasized that the peak season for H7N9 flu has arrived, and animal husbandry and veterinary departments at all levels must act actively, effectively implement all prevention and control measures, and do a good job in H7N9 flu prevention and control work to ensure stable poultry industry production and effective supply of poultry products.
The peak season for H7N9 flu has arrived, and animal husbandry and veterinary departments at all levels must act actively and effectively implement all prevention and control measures,
Recently, H7N9 flu cases have reappeared in some provinces of China. Yu Kangzhen was very concerned about the development of the poultry industry, epidemic prevention supervision in live poultry markets, and prevention and control work at poultry farms. He made a special trip to Shuanglong Farmers Market and Xinlian Farmers Market in Hailing District, Taizhou City, to ask in detail about the sources of live poultry sold and changes in market prices, and to inspect the implementation of epidemic prevention measures such as origin quarantine certificates and market closure disinfection. He fully affirmed the live poultry market supervision measures taken by the local government. He required animal husbandry and veterinary departments in all localities to, under the unified leadership of local governments, closely cooperate with relevant departments, refine and implement measures, and do everything possible to prevent the virus from spreading from live poultry markets to humans. Once H7N9 cases appear, animal husbandry and veterinary departments must simultaneously carry out monitoring and screening, and thoroughly eliminate sources of infection and hidden epidemic risks. Subsequently, he visited Jinlu Laying Hen Farm in Gaogang District, Taizhou City, to learn in detail about the hatching, raising, sales, and profitability of laying hens. He urged the person in charge of the enterprise to raise poultry scientifically and carry out scientific epidemic prevention, so as to provide consumers with safe poultry products. He required animal husbandry and veterinary departments at all levels to strengthen epidemic prevention supervision at poultry farms and resolutely prevent the virus from spreading from live poultry markets to farms. Yu Kangzhen pointed out that winter and spring are periods of high incidence for H7N9 and other influenzas. Animal husbandry and veterinary departments at all levels must persist in grasping both aspects: on the one hand, grasp disease prevention and control, and in conjunction with the implementation of the national H7N9 flu eradication plan for poultry, strengthen monitoring and screening in live poultry markets and poultry farms, promptly eliminate pathogens and hidden epidemic risks, and effectively prevent disease risks; on the other hand, grasp industrial development, pay close attention to the impact of influenza epidemic information on the poultry industry and poultry product consumption, strengthen public opinion guidance, scientifically guide consumption, strengthen technical guidance and services, implement support policies for poultry industry production, actively promote the transformation and upgrading of the entire poultry industry chain, and promote sustained and stable development of the poultry industry.
