The latest survey by the Miels organization points out that in 2013 the average annual growth rate of global compound feed was 1.1% (963 million tons), while in 2009 and 2011 the average annual growth rates of global compound feed were 1.1% and 1.5% respectively. It is not hard to see that global feed production is currently in an era of extreme expansion. In 2010 global compound feed production reached as high as 7.25 tons. From the comparison of total global feed output over the years (from 1995 to 2011), it can be seen that total global feed output has basically maintained a steady growth trend (with only a few years showing a slight decline). Among them, feed production in Asia-Pacific countries still holds a dominant position. At present, the world's largest feed production region is still concentrated in the Asia-Pacific region.

From global feed surveys in previous years, it can be seen that in 2000 global compound feed output increased by 3.5% compared with 1995, in 2005 it increased by nearly 5.75% compared with 2000, and by 2010 it had grown again by 12.25%. In the most recent data survey, starting in 2005, the feed industry entered its fastest period of growth; on the whole, feed output has continued to grow in recent years, but the magnitude of each increase has been slowing, with the average annual growth rate falling by 1%.

So far, the Asia-Pacific region remains the world's largest feed market, among which the rapid growth of developing countries led by China has been a strong driving force. From 2007 to 2013, the animal feed additives market in the Asia-Pacific region developed rapidly, and its growth was mainly due to the increased awareness of farmers and the impetus of government development plans. According to the "Asia-Pacific Feed Additives Market Outlook for 2018", “in 2010, Asia's output of milk, meat and eggs had already reached 266.9 million tons, 123.2 million tons and 42.5 million tons respectively”, and market demand for animal products including meat, eggs and milk surged. In 2012, industrially produced compound feed in the Asia-Pacific region accounted for 33.75% of the global total. China alone produced 17.4% of the world's compound feed, while the rest of the Asia-Pacific region produced 16.3%. Europe (including Russia) accounted for 22.8% of total global feed output, North America 21.75%, Latin America 15.6%, and the Middle East and Africa together 6.4%.

The use of feed additives has boosted the growth momentum of the feed additives industry globally. Emerging markets such as the Asia-Pacific region, Latin America, and the Middle East and Africa have witnessed growing demand from newly affluent groups for higher-quality meat products. Out of concern for meat quality, and also to ensure the safety of meat products during outbreaks of various diseases, producers began to focus on the quality of animal feed. A large number of product types have appeared in the global feed additives market, such as amino acids, enzymes, acidifiers, toxin adsorbents, antimicrobial peptides, and microecological preparations.

In the past, the emergence of new diseases reduced livestock production performance and affected the output of animal products. To reduce this negative impact, farmers in more regions began to add supplementary feed and feed for livestock, using increased income to offset the cost of feed. The use of feed additives has also reduced pollution of land and groundwater by livestock.

According to a new report, the global animal feed additives market was worth 13.5 billion US dollars in 2011 and is expected to reach 17.5 billion US dollars by 2018. The report published by "Transparent Market Research" said that the compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of the global animal feed additives market rose 3.8% from 2011 to 2018. In the overall global market, the Asia-Pacific region is expected to continue to maintain its leading position in revenue until 2018, and the Asia-Pacific region is expected to hold a 32.4% revenue share of the global animal feed additives market.
