Report from this website: According to the Ministry of Agriculture, in 2014 the area under green prevention and control for major crop pests and diseases nationwide reached 920 million mu-times, accounting for 20.7% of the total pest and disease control area, an increase of 7.2 percentage points over 2006.

Integrated green prevention and control of crop pests and diseases comprehensively applies environmentally friendly technical measures such as agricultural control, physical control, biological control, ecological regulation and scientific pesticide use to promptly and effectively prevent and control pest and disease damage and reduce the use of chemical pesticides, thereby raising from the source the level of agricultural production safety, agricultural product quality safety and ecological environment safety. Since 2006, the Ministry of Agriculture has put forward the concept of green plant protection, formulated guidance on green prevention and control, established 218 demonstration bases and 150 demonstration zones for the integrated promotion of green prevention and control and unified prevention and control, and trained 40,000-50,000 production and operation personnel each year. At the same time, it has increased financial support from central and local governments, providing subsidies for materialized products of green prevention and control technologies such as insect-killing lamps, sex pheromone attractants and yellow sticky boards, as well as for high-efficiency, low-toxicity and low-residue pesticides, which has promoted the extension and application of green prevention and control technologies for crop pests and diseases.

A number of technical models have been integrated. In the main corn-producing areas of Northeast China, a prevention and control model based on Beauveria bassiana sealing of stacks and releasing parasitic wasps to control borers has been formed; in the main rice-producing areas of South China, a prevention and control model integrating sex pheromone attraction, light trapping and rice-duck and rice-fish symbiosis has been integrated; and in advantageous production areas of fruit, vegetables and tea, a prevention and control model based mainly on sex pheromone attraction, light trapping and color attraction has been integrated. Up to now, 84 green prevention and control technical models have been integrated by crop and by region.

The area of promotion and application has been expanded. Through “showing farmers by doing and leading farmers in doing”, with typical examples leading the way and demonstrations driving uptake, green prevention and control has gradually gained the recognition of farmers, and the area of promotion and application has expanded year by year. According to statistics, in 2014 the area under green prevention and control of pests and diseases for economic crops such as vegetables, fruits and tea and for grain crops such as rice and corn reached more than 920 million mu, an increase of 490 million mu-times over 2006.

The quality and safety level of agricultural products has been raised. The extension of green prevention and control technologies has strongly supported the construction of production bases for “three products and one label”. According to statistics, in 2014 this drove the creation of 760 standardized production bases, with a total area of 126 million mu, linked with 2,136 leading enterprises, benefiting 18.038 million farming households and directly increasing farmers' income by more than 1.1 billion yuan.

⟦NL> The farmland ecological environment has been improved. By adopting harmless prevention and control measures such as light trapping, sex pheromone attraction, color attraction, ecological control, biological control and release of natural enemies, pesticide use can be reduced by 1-2 times per season for field crops and by 3-4 times for fruits, vegetables and tea, mostly reducing chemical pesticide use by 20%-30%. According to surveys, the number of natural enemies of pests such as spiders in rice fields in Zhejiang and Jiangxi increased by 1-3 times.

With the promotion and application of green prevention and control measures such as physical control, biological control and ecological control, the role of sustainable pest and disease management has gradually emerged. By reducing the population density of major pests and diseases such as locusts and corn borers, no large-scale locust disaster has occurred in the beach areas along the Yellow River and the lake and reservoir areas of North China in the past 10 years, and the severity of corn borer damage in Northeast China has also shown a declining trend.
