The Forum on Intelligent Fertilizer Blending and Scientific Fertilization Focusing on Modern Agricultural Development was recently held in Chifeng City, Inner Mongolia. The meeting centered on hot topics including national standards for slow and controlled release fertilizers and the development of new-type fertilizers, the current status of national cultivated land quality and scientific fertilization, how traditional agricultural input distribution should respond to "going online and getting wired," and the development of value-added fertilizer modification, with participating experts engaging in interactive exchanges with dealers and large-scale growers.

In recent years, with the accelerated development of modern agriculture, innovation in fertilizer production, academia, research and extension has become a new pathway for agricultural efficiency improvement in major agricultural production areas. The promotion and application of intelligent fertilizer blending stations and fertilizer blending machines in major agricultural provinces is highly representative. At present, the application area of formula fertilizer in Shandong Province has reached 40 million mu, and the province has equipped more than 1,700 fertilizer blending machines with electronic touch screens, basically achieving full coverage of soil sampling and testing and formula publication in scientific fertilization project areas, with new products, new technologies and new fertilization models boosting the development of modern agriculture.

Li Rong, Director of the Soil and Fertilizer Division of the National Agricultural Technology Extension Service Center, believes that excessive fertilization and years of continuous cultivation have left the land overwhelmed. "Once soil is polluted and damaged, it is extremely difficult to restore." Li Rong told reporters, "The state vigorously promotes the soil testing and formula fertilization project and advocates the development of new-type fertilizers such as slow and controlled release fertilizers and water-soluble fertilizers, precisely in the hope that through innovation in fertilizer products and the advancement of scientific fertilization methods, fertilizer production can achieve reduction and efficiency improvement, and agricultural cultivation can achieve cost savings and efficiency gains."

The current status of cultivated land quality and the development of new-type fertilizers are matters concerning China's food security. "Within 10 years, more than 30% of ordinary chemical fertilizers will achieve value-added modification, and with an annual promotion area of 1 billion mu, grain output can be increased by 20 billion kilograms." said Zhao Bingqiang, Secretary-General of the Chinese Society of Plant Nutrition and Fertilizer Science. He believes that maximizing nutrient use efficiency and taking the path of "quality replacing quantity" is the future development direction of China's fertilizer industry.

Chen Mingliang, Deputy Director of the Fertilizer Institute of the Shanghai Research Institute of Chemical Industry, told reporters that unreasonable fertilizer standards often constrain enterprise product innovation and fertilizer innovation, and even affect product quality and mutual trust between buyers and sellers. Therefore, the scientific formulation of fertilizer standards remains a hot topic in the industry.
