Who Should Develop China's Turkey Market
Typically, when people mention turkey, they associate it with three holidays: Thanksgiving, Christmas, and Easter. Among them, Thanksgiving is also called “Turkey Day,” and turkey has been given the label of Western culture. Eating turkey has a history of nearly 400 years, and now turkey is popular in many countries, of course including China. Turkey has become a popular high-quality new type of poultry meat and occupies an important position in world poultry meat consumption.
Compared with broiler chickens, turkey has very high nutritional value and is praised by nutritionists as a high-protein, low-fat “super nutritious food.” Turkey mixed with other meats can also ensure stable taste, and since China has entered an aging era, dietary structures are continuously changing, and choosing high-protein, low-fat, low-cholesterol turkey products will become fashionable. In the past, many Chinese people did not like to eat turkey meat because they did not know its nutritional value and understood even less about the processing and cooking of turkey meat. With the improvement of Chinese people's living standards and turkey meat processing levels, the position of turkey meat in China's consumer market has risen somewhat, and choosing turkey will become a market development trend.
⟦NL> The United States is the country that produces the most turkey in the world, accounting for nearly 50% of total world turkey production, with annual turkey product output reaching about 2.7 million tons. Noting China's demand for high-end meat products, starting in early 2008, the USA Poultry & Egg Export Council began promoting turkey products in China's meat processing industry. Through several years of effort, China has now become the second-largest export market for U.S. turkey products, reaching nearly 50,000 tons or so. Peter Schweighofer, vice president of Metro China, said: “There are 1.3 billion people in China, about 300 million middle class, and the Minnesota turkey industry plans to position turkey as a high-value meat and promote it to the Chinese market. We hope turkey will become top-grade steak in China.”
Americans have already taken action. Are we going to hand such a large turkey consumer market in China over to Americans to develop?
