The latest report from Sinograin (China Grain Reserves Corporation) shows that as of the end of December last year, Sinograin had completed a cumulative policy-related grain auction transaction volume of 52.15 million tons, 1.43 times that of the same period of the previous year, and accelerated the outbound delivery speed of sold grain.

As for the coming year, Sinograin will accelerate the formulation of a 5-year warehousing science and technology development plan, and continue to expand the total scale of investment in warehouse construction.

Sinograin's report shows that since 2005, it has continuously launched minimum purchase price purchases and temporary reserve purchases for major grain varieties. Large-scale, sustained policy-related purchasing and storage have protected farmers' interests, but have also gradually pushed grain inventories to a record high. Nationwide grain warehouse capacity is generally tight, and some main producing areas are severely short, making it an urgent task to solve the warehouse capacity problem for purchasing and storing new grain.

⟦NL> To this end, Sinograin has clarified its work priorities and requirements, and made specific arrangements in aspects such as promoting sales to reduce inventories, strengthening transportation, increasing local reserves, intensifying warehouse construction, and tapping the potential of social warehouse capacity. In the summer grain purchase of 2014, warehouse capacity was effectively guaranteed, with 25.35 million tons of wheat market-support purchases completed, 3 times the purchase volume of the same period of the previous year, and 4.19 million tons of early indica rice market-support purchases completed, avoiding the emergence of the "difficulty in selling grain" problem for farmers; more than 60 million tons of effective warehouse capacity was freed up for the autumn grain purchase of 2014, effectively alleviating the tight warehouse capacity contradiction in main producing areas, especially the Northeast region. Policy-related purchasing and storage were carried out in an orderly manner in all localities, meeting farmers' grain-selling needs and ensuring that every grain of grain was stored away.

To alleviate the tight warehouse capacity problem, Sinograin invested in a total warehouse construction scale of 4.55 million tons in 2014. At present, the implementation of related warehouse construction projects is proceeding smoothly, and after completion they will directly serve the Northeast autumn grain purchase and the southern early rice purchase. At the same time, Sinograin comprehensively advanced the construction of intelligent grain depots. Through pilot projects, it formed a systematic solution integrating information technology into grain storage management, built a new intelligent grain depot management system integrating multiple functions such as remote grain condition monitoring, intelligent inbound and outbound supervision, and inventory quantity monitoring, creating an upgraded version of grain storage management. In 2014, the intelligent transformation of 114 directly affiliated depots was completed, and in 2015 it will cover 346 directly affiliated depots across the entire system.

Sinograin's report states that it will formulate a 5-year warehousing science and technology development plan as soon as possible. With "high quality, high nutrition, low loss, low pollution, low cost" as the basic goals, and with the optimization, upgrading and deep application of advanced grain storage technologies as the main line, it will focus on building green grain storage technology systems for different ecological regions and different varieties, further achieving quality preservation, loss reduction and consumption reduction in stored grain and oil.
