High-vigor seeds should become an industry standard as soon as possible

Recently, the annual project summary meeting of the Ministry of Agriculture public welfare industry (agriculture) scientific research special project “Research and Demonstration of Key Technologies for the Production of High-Vigor Seeds of Major Crops” was held in Kunming City, Yunnan Province.

More than 30 people from more than 20 universities, research institutions and enterprises, including China Agricultural University, the Institute of Crop Sciences of the Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences, and Beijing Denong Seed Industry Co., Ltd., attended the meeting.

Project participants reported respectively on the research progress in 2014 and the work plans for 2015, and held discussions and exchanges within each research task group and crop group. Project chief Wang Jianhua proposed that the 2014 quality analysis report on the seeds of 4 crops, namely corn, rice, wheat and cotton, should be published as soon as possible; the evaluation methods for high-vigor seed vigor and the seed production technical regulations for corn, rice, wheat and cotton crops should be improved as soon as possible and formed into industry standards for publication and application; a database of the physical traits of the seeds of the above 4 crops should be established as soon as possible; work on markers related to seed vigor should be accelerated; the verification and extension of relevant research results need to be put on the work agenda; and collaboration among the various research tasks should be strengthened.
