Entrepreneurship, innovation and excellence drive agricultural and rural development to a new level

On the 28th, Vice Premier Wang Yang of the State Council held a discussion with national rural youth leaders in getting rich and representatives of national outstanding rural youth. He stressed that rural youth are a vibrant and important force driving national development and social progress, and they must keep their mission firmly in mind, forge ahead, strive to be pioneers in developing modern agriculture, take the lead in building a new socialist countryside, and be forerunners in guiding new trends of rural civilization.

Wang Yang pointed out that this great era has provided a broad stage for rural youth to display their talents and achieve their careers. Rural youth must be bold in entrepreneurship, vigorously develop scale operations and intensive operations, develop green agriculture and specialty agriculture, and take the path of comprehensive and sustainable development. They must dare to innovate, actively adopt new science and technologies such as the Internet, establish new concepts of production and operation, introduce new forms of industry, and promote new marketing models. They must focus on pursuing excellence, actively establish distinctive family farms, farmers' cooperatives, leading agricultural enterprises and so on, introduce modern industrial development concepts and organizational methods such as industrial chains, supply chains and value chains into agriculture, produce high-quality and safe agricultural products, and strive to create outstanding achievements. They must strengthen learning and the pursuit of knowledge, not only “enriching their pockets” but also “enriching their minds,” becoming a new generation of farmers with new ideas, a broad vision, strong capabilities and good business skills, building a beautiful new countryside and creating a better new life. Local governments at all levels must create a good atmosphere that encourages and supports rural youth in undertaking and succeeding in their endeavors.
